Nissan

Let's hope Sunderland is relatively unscathed.

But the government *has* to bring down the costs of making stuff in the UK otherwise manufacturing plants like Nissan simply aren't viable in the long term. Primarily this means lowering energy costs and employment taxes.

Emergency briefing that tells you nowt. Apart from the CEO staring with he wants to make sure employees hear this first. It only been in the news for 24hrs ffs🤣

Sounds like these pricks want you constantly fearing for your jobs to keep you in your place.

What would it have took to reassure you BEFORE they announced the job cuts?

Think its more to do with the fact that the company is globally in freefall. Have you seen the global financial results?

Not disagreeing but I’m wondering if line 2 are going to 3 shifts like people are saying, and line 1 all scatter over there to make up the other shift, why would there be recaps?

And the 200 staff needing jobs when castings closes in Oct are going ????
Recaps mate 👌
His tariffs are up and down like a whore's drawers, surely they're not making massive business decisions on the back of such uncertainty.

The EU has tariffs on Chinese EVs going up to 35% and Germany probably want them higher, could be a way to get around those and have the cars built in the best plants in Europe helping change attitudes to Chinese made equipment, as some still think they only make cheap tat.

Great for the environment. Pass the parcel trade routes where everything circles the globe to the cheapest despatch point.

The future is buying something with 'Made in fuck knows mate' on the label.

My thinking is if they reassure certain plants, the ones that aren't told their jobs are safe work out their heads are on the block and down tools before Nissan stick the boot in.
The morally right thing would be to tip folk off so they can find work to pay their mortgage etc. but businesses like to pull the rug suddenly because £££. Have you working like buggery the day before they tell you to fuck off.
I don't think Sunderland is in trouble because if it was they'd be telling you it was all fine and dandy right up to the point you got your cards. They want you grafting till the point you're not required.

I think there’s a few things blocking 3 shifts on line 2, some that need investment to overcome. They need investment, a successful new model launch and lower costs to overcome this rough patch. If Chinese cars come to NMUK it could be something like the N7. I think they need a Sedan in the European market and they’ve built D segment cars before.
