Gut feeling is he's an excellent coach who can get his ideas across to players very quickly. We were incredibly well drilled at the start of the season - the way we pressed on triggers and our build up play was straight from the training ground. We even scored almost identical set pieces two weeks in a row then tried to repeat the same routine over and over since (the outswinger to the back post for Cirkin to head back across goal).
But you need more than just that over a 46 game season. Burnley are ridiculously boring to watch and similarly we'll drilled but the difference is their will and desire to get back into position and defend, Parker deserves credit for unveiling that mentality in them. I just don't see much else from Le Bris. I don't think it's over the top to say his use of substitutions and squad and game management is as bad as I've seen from any Sunderland manager. I was tempted to say the worst but the run from Parkinson pre-Covid where he played the same team every game then threw 5 strikers on whenever we were chasing a game and played 3-2-5 with no midfield was equally as bad.
It's been said many times that he doesn't give direct criticism or instruction, he prefers players to figure the game out themselves and will pause the tape at a mistake but then hand over to the players to work out what went wrong. He's 49, didn't have much of a playing career and only has 3 years management experience. He's worked as a youth coach most of his career. We hired him because of his record of developing young players and his methods sound fantastic for player development. I'm not sure they are really what's needed for a first team head coach with aspirations of promotion though.
I also think he was scarred by us conceding late goals away to Plymouth and Watford early on. We became very conservative after that.
I'm not saying sack him. But I kind of think this probably isn't going to work long term and he'll be gone by November whatever happens. Even if we go up we'll probably lose most weeks and there'll be a temptation to change it.
