Dan Neil

Seemed to get pushed further forward today with Jobe left in a holding role. Almost like RLB was experimenting in last game before the playoffs, which would be scary. Our lack of some decent experience and physicality in midfield has been glaringly obvious again this season. I still say we'd get more out of Neil, Jobe and Rigg with a player capable of breaking up attacks and do the dirty work.
Browne?

Switched them both back at half time. Jobe further forward. Madness he hasn't a clue what his best team and formation is last game of the season.

Jobe is a yellow waiting to happen when played in the holding role. I honestly think he'll go on to be a great box to box player, but needs far better players around him to make the next step.

Handled poorly? He's been given a hundred n odd appearances and the captaincy ffs. Stop making excuses for him.

He's been plonked in the CDM role, which doesn't suit his attributes and repeatedly told by Mowbs to pass it to the wide man's feet. He's a competent top-half championship cm, had he been handled better, I'd like to think this season wouldn't have happened and he would be further along in development.

Plonk off man. He's a midfielder. Play like one. Ya'd think he'd been asked to play in goal ffs.

His worst games this season have been in a more advanced role. It's a myth that he has the attributes for it and that's where he's best suited. Too slow on the ball, questionable touch, sloppy passing, poor vision, awareness and decision making.

Well, that just speaks to the consistency of approach, since Neil left, he's been plonked where available as opposed to what was best for his development.

His best games were for AJ and Neil (championship), cm, allowed to orchestrate play, he was good in patches for Mowbray, but his game was thoroughly adapted.

Play him next season in a role suited in the championship and he will comfortably be a top-half championship player.

As for his attributes, you're seeing the very worst of him this season IMO, and everything has been impacted.

😂😂😂😂 local lad or not be is an average footballer and no where near captains material. Has been crap for weeks now as have the rest of the midfield which is the main reason we can’t score
£20m is a joke … be lucky if anyone hoys in £10m and a fish supper
We won't be getting anywhere near £20mill...1 yr left on contract.

, and since his form dropped after to a level still above Dan, has seen us plummet.
From Swansea around November till a couple of months ago that just didn't happen 😃😃

Neil was head and shoulders above him, though that clearly hasn't lasted.

More recently both have been extremely average. Jobe barring the odd bit of quick feet occasionally is as average as they come. He's not had enough games further back to develop in the role, but as an 8 either carrying the ball or making us tick or things happen in the final third he's been nothing more than average since last year.

I wouldn't be the tethered about selling any of the three midfielders, apart from the fact we'd somehow have to replace them and have no one ready to step in.

Jobe was by far and away the best player on the pitch in a red and white shirt today. As soon as we are knocked out of the play offs there will be serious offers from PL sides.

Tell.me you don't understand football positions without telling me you don't understand football positions 😄

He's generally asked to be almost a spare man passing the ball around at the back in front of the back four, even to the point he's been asked to drop into defence on occasions. He's playing that role in a structured side- he isn't allowed to do some of the things you seem to want him to do week in week out. That being said he started the season averagely and was often the focus of the opposition press and got caught on the ball. He then got extremely good for a period around November onwards and then has dropped off a cliff again - as pretty much everyone has.

This season he's been pretty average when starting in more advanced midfielder roles further forward, but he's never done it for more than one game at a time - three or four times he played the 8 role.

In the past and earlier this season when getting forward there's absolutely no way you can aim most of those criticisms at him in the final third. He's generally one of few players able to play the ball through gaps and slide rule passes forward.
