I think it was 'why don't you just switch off your TV set and go and do something less boring instead', whereas the acronym in your post suggests the wording was 'turn off', and 'more interesting', but I don't think that's right.

It’s a minor annoyance to me that in a variety of US tv programmes they occasionally mention ‘blood pudding’ (black pudding) as an element of the drama or the comedy, usually, but not always to illustrate how disgusting British food is or whatever.
Nobody outside of the USA has ever referred to it as Blood Pudding. Ever
