PAT Testing

Nope, four separate firms quoting £1750-£2250, inclusive of VAT. One quoted £750, but didn’t have the required attitude to adequately PAT test my house.

Unbelievably expensive but guess I’ll just have to bite the bullet.

As for what’s legal and what’s not, it’s illegal to steal washing powder from Asda, but people do it. Am I going to drive to Asda, walk in and shoplift a 2kg tub of Persil? No.

Why is it a wind up getting the electrics in your house PAT tested? It’s just common sense and good practice. It’s these firms that are on a wind up, quoting these prices. I’ve put it out through one of those “checkatrade” type websites and see what people quote me and what reviews they have.

My goodness man! Careful tapping on those keys, they might be full of feral untested rampantly dangerous electricity. Make sure you see their ID badge and 'phone head office to check them out when they come to you quadruple locked door.

What do you think might happen if you don't?

Do you even know what they are actually testing?

Do you have a modern consumer unit with RCB's and MCB's?

Do you check your stuff is intact, has the correct fuse and has no loose wires?

I think, like others, that you are on a wind up.

No company would serious quote those figures for a bit of PAT. The top rate would be £3 an item but probably closer to £1.

Do you have your own defib at home? Probably a better use of £800.

I worked with a bloke who did this regularly with his family. I think he had one of those window ladder things as well.

Probably a sensible thing if you have kids.

I used to travel a lot for work and I always made a note of where the fire exit was in my hotel.

No legal requirement but a businesses insurer will usually insist on it as part of their liability cover.
I've never heard of such a thing for residential insurance though. God knows why the OP would go to the expense of it. Do you have the little green stickers on all of the appliances as well?

I got Sunderland PAT Testing to do my office last time I needed it. Bloke and his son came out to do it. Struck me as something you could quite easily do yourself mind. But it must be incredibly dull.

Dya know what , thats not a bad shout at all if you can afford it . About a grand and it may save you ,your family or a neighbours life someday cos if your clock stops your almost certainly dead before an ambulance gets there . Puts your kettle fusing into perspective like .

Could I suggest you spend 300 quid on wine, get blootered and you won’t care about ya toaster anymore.
