PAT Testing

It’s best practice to get electrical devices PAT tested. I’ve been doing this for years and only ever had an old hair dryer fail, which obviously got decommissioned and disposed of the second it failed the PAT tested first.

£2k is a joke though, that’s about £50 device and some are small - i.e., blenders. I said, can you not come down on this, I know there’s been inflation, let’s do a deal here though, he was laughing in my face.

That’s just silly.
It'll be cheaper to buy a PAT machine.

I don’t need a pat test. I’ve a box that if anything doesn’t work it cuts off. Consumer box they are called.

Been quoted £2k to get all electrical devices in the house PAT tested. Seems high to me, I do this every few years and I’m sure last time it was only £300-400, which is reasonable.

Anyone know anyone who can do this in East Boldon? Usually takes about a day, but provided the kettle is PAT tested first, you get unlimited cups of tea (not actually unlimited, accepting anymore than 3/4 teas is greedy and rude).
Sounds like the spark can’t be arsed to do this non essential job and has whacked a massive price in to scare you off
Absolutely zero reason to have your appliances pat tested

Just done a load of quotes and it turns out about £2k is the going rate, unless you’re willing to hire the type of monster that puts sugar on his cornflakes.

One guy said he’d do it for £700 as it would only take “about an hour”. I said hold up buddy boy, this is not my first rodeo. You’re not coming round my house PAT testing with that sort of attitude.

Waste of money getting this shit done when the government will be cutting our electricity off at will whilst they blame atmospheric phenomena to keep the net zero bollocks at the forefront of people’s minds.

There is no legal requirement to PAT test in the workplace never mind the home. In the workplace you need to have a scheme of electrical maintenance in place and often PAT testing is the easiest way to do this. PAT testing firms try to have your eyes out as it is easier for them to come in and blanket test everything as opposed to what is actually due. It’s money for old rope. As for PAT testing at home, never heard of it unless maybe the OP is wanting to rent it out fully furnished and wants to cover his arse. 2 grand sounds ridiculous though. Of course this could be a big whooosh by the Op.
