England Players County Form

Dawson seems to have improved with age the last couple of seasons but I still don't think he's taking many test match wickets. He will hold an end up at best, and get some runs batting at 6/7/8. He's not the worst shout if you have a fit Stokes and first choice pace attack, but otherwise I still think Leach is the best option.

As much as Bashir had a pretty naff winter and his form hasn't been good so far this season.

For a young spinner to do well in April in the CC is unheard of, so got to defend the kid to an extent.

The only spinners averaging under 40(that have played all 3 games) in the CC are Dawson,Leach and Harmer who are all mid 30s vastly experienced bowlers.
Sure. But that’s his average over his career right?

I see Hartley played the last two games although figures werent special.

Leach was only given 5 overs bowling against Hampshire. Archie Vaughan played but didnt even bowl. It was only one game but I watched them both earlier this season and Leach looked far more dangerous.

Small sample size but the current stats for English spinners in the CC so far are;

Leach 10 wickets @32.50
Dawson 6 wickets @28
Carson 5 wickets @52
Bess 5 wickets @42.60
Critchley 5 wickets @40.20
Hartley 5 wickets @48.40
F Ahmed 4 wickets @52
Bashir 2 wickets @152
R Ahmed 1 wicket @111

You also have Dan Lawrence with 6 wickets @60 and the 18yo Tazeem Ali at Warks with 8 wickets @35.

Great thanks!

One to add Archie Vaughan at 86.6

Saw a stat saying since the start of 2021 Dawson has 152 wickets at 25 and nearly 3,000 runs at 39 with the bat.

His time has almost certainly passed now but he should’ve been the man post Moeen Ali. Just never got a proper chance extended chance in any of the England setups.

It’s close between him and leach like, I think going leach was fair enough meself

I think picking Moeen ahead of him for the 2023 Ashes was a really bad decision.

No real issues that they went for Leach over him as the spinner after Moeen retired first time, but once he was injured it was a no brainer.

I would not pick Bashir, what they hoped from him simply has not happened and just not good enough.

I would not pick Leach either just don’t think he a good international spinner never have tbh.

Therefore why not give Dawson a go, he seems to have a real competitive spirit and clearly better bat than the other two

I'm in total agreement with this. Leach has shown hes OK at best but can take a carting.

Bash is not good enough
Ahmed is questionable

It's worth giving Dawson a try. At least he'll contain and build pressure. He can't do any worse than the other options

Sibley hit his fifth half century in six innings. Very impressive. BBC report got it spot on "sedate but rock solid" which ios why he probably won't get picked for England.

Burns played a much more aggressive and exciting innings but rode his luck a bit I thought. Smith played a good innings.
Ahmed with figures of 73-5 across two innings for Notts.

His brother didnt bowl again for Leicestershire and scored poorly with the bat.
