Scored a ton opening against Lancashire this last round. Didn't realise he's opening now. Has he transformed himself as a top order batter now? As I don't see him getting many overs in.

Interesting to see how he gets on. He had a decent technique from what I saw. Whether that transfers is another matter.

He isn’t like, I wouldn’t pick bashir but what’s opening the batting well got to do with his bowling?

He's a reasonable batter from what I've seen.

Happy to change my mind but so far not sure he is good enough as a spinner. Strangetas well that we took him to India then didnt play him. Pitches were ideal for spin.

What we dont need though is an average spinner who can bat a bit.

Good assessment.

His younger brother Farhan might be a better pick in future. He's an offspinner who seems to have control and can hold a bat too. He's started solidly for Notts this season.

We seem to have a few youngun spinners coming through. Not sure how to turn them into world beaters in our seem friendly conditions.

The argument is that he could bat 7/8 and his bowling wouldn’t be his only suit so hopefully he’d relax into it

Bashir at 11 feels a wasted spot

It’s not a great argument of course, you pick your best spinner

If I had to choose between the two I'd pick Rehan over Bash too. Because he's miles the better batter and questionable who's the better bowler. I will concede that they wouldn't get in my England team cos of their bowling. But it's not straightforward an answer.

That's probably what Scotch meant mate.

Yeah wouldn’t pick Bashir but like whoever replaces him needs to be picked on his bowling
 
Feels like we've wasted 2 years not picking Dawson who can bat 7, hold an end and bowl tight but get wickets on helpful pitches.

Literally ticks all the boxes except what they are after for Australian pitches.

Choosing not to carry drinks on that India tour has definitely cost him despite Key saying he respected the choice to make money in franchise Cricket that winter instead.

People go way over the top about Dawson like, he didnt pull up trees when he played before, and is not a better bowler than Leach in my opinion

Need to be wary when this is a massive call that someone from CC has to play...everyone said the same about Rory Burns at one point
 
Certainly deserves a crack though? I could understand if we had a spinner performing fantastically. We have had though Leach, Bashir, Ahmed & Hartley and none able to wholly nail down a place with confidence. When you’ve got someone performing well regularly in the CC in this situation you have to wonder why he’s not given a crack.
