Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

With the exception of 1 half at sheff united away ... a 1 goal at the sol. He's not setting the world ablaze

Yesterday was a shit show ... and the last couple of games have Been dull laboured affairs we've attacking seems a challenge, hence its hard to judge him on that.

Booing him is petty... especially when other players should be held accountable for when we couldn't hold our season together when we were 5 points clear and started dropping needless points.

How many 19 year old get offered to go to a decent pl operation and get to be millionaires ... with less 1st experience. I don't blame him

We are a player farm ...this is our model . Deal with it
To be fair he's probably even more glad he's going with those performances and tactics.
Been in the academy since he was what, 8? So that’s 10 years of support, investment and training the club has provided then he fooks off to Brighton
Clubs take the piss out of the players they bring through I think, in terms of contracts and wages. It must be shite for them when we buy someone in and they are on a lot more wages, same in any business but being local makes it even worse

not bothered about him chasing the money, if that’s what he wants then fair. It’s his total lack of any meaningful contributions that winds me up. We were effectively playing with 10 on Saturday

I don’t get this at all, he was as willing as anyone else on the pitch Saturday.

I understand the fans frustrations but the booing when he went off was also out of order in my opinion.

Booing was childish yes but he was hardly playing like a lad who’ll be starting for a top club in August

He won’t be starting for a top club in August, he isn’t as good as Adinga, he will be back in the championship on loan in my opinion but not here regardless of what league we are in, I wouldn’t be surprised if he went to Boro on loan.

Some diabolical points of view in this thread. Footballers don't have much longevity in their career. The young lad has showed enough promise for an established PL club to come in and give him a long term contract on a decent salary to set him up for life.

He might never get the same opportunity again later in his career. We offer peanuts within our wage structure so he was never going to stay in a million years.

Those booing him off the pitch on Saturday would be better placed staying at home and listening to the game on the radio.

so should the club offer contracts to all players who give them 10 years?

I’d be annoyed if he was going abroad end of his contract which meant we were getting buttons in compensation for his longevity here.

I don’t get the anger of adults considering the good money we are getting, maybe as a younger more immature lad I would be taking it more personal.

I'd have him out of the squad completely for the run in for his own good. Our fans are morons unfortunately and it won't help him.

It will help him build his character, and I’m afraid we aren’t blessed with other fit left wingers to just do this, he agreed to goto Brighton knowing he had a role to play here 1st.

The problem isn’t about Watson.
The problem is the announcement.
Whoever thought it was a good idea to announce this signing with 6 plus games left need a good kick in the bollocks. Mundle was always going to get injured especially when this was announced. Has made his time left incredibly difficult.
The club are f***ing childlike in the running of it.

My opinion on the Watson scenario...

He's done fuck all to suggest he's worth 10m, he's also behind Mundle. So good fee for the club.

If he left on deadline day but the club signed him back on loan, none of this fume would be a thing and his commitment wouldn't be questioned. I think we will sell Rigg in the summer and I think a buying club would see the benefits of leaving him with us another year, I can't see that scenario being met with all this drama.

Should we be playing him... He's a Sunderland player until he isn't so yes we should consider him...but...on the basis of the last 2 games, No he's not impacting games. Pat on the left and Mayenda on the Right please, let's see if Roberts can cross the ball on his left instead of cutting inside every 10min, it's at the point now where the keeper could probably make a brew while Roberts is on a run.

Harte, whether connected to the deal or not is a massive bell end.
You’ll have people agreeing or disagreeing with most of your post. The final sentence however is indisputable ;)

That's because he won't be starting for a top club in August.

Brighton under 21's play in the same division as we do.
If they put him out to a Championship team, then it'll be a lower level than us.
There's some guff about him being part of their first team, he's nowhere near that level.

He went purely for the money. His choice, but the likes of Rigg and Jobe are light years ahead of Watson, and saw the sense in developing with us, before ( as they will ) moving on.

Can't help feeling the lad has been manipulated by Harte, even marrying Harte's daughter ffs!

Shouldn't have been booed, though.

Not sure it's the announcement personally, it's the contract being signed, at all imo. Why on earth are they making deals with 6 games left until the end of the season, it's disrespectful to the club and shows that Watson has absolutely no interest in being here. There's absolutely no reason why this couldn't have been done at the end of the season.

He could've easily been a key player til the end of the season which meant we could offer a similar deal to Brighton to be a first team player in the same league. Instead he had no interest in that.

Fair point. Look at what they’ve done with Poveda. He earns probably 5x a week more and has done f all

This is all true. Agree there mate

Yes and pay them £20k a week. Buy them a 7 bedroom house in General’s wood too
Agreed. Show the same loyalty back that’s demanded

Amazing how if anyone stays or moves to Sunderland it’s the absolute right thing to do but if they leave it’s the absolute wrong thing to do.

He went purely for the money? He might of, who knows but even if he did that’s a decision for him to make isn’t it? It’s his career. But let’s not make out that he hasn’t moved to a club who seem to have a great eye for talent and development.

Also how do you come to the conclusion he has been manipulated by Harte when he has nothing to do with him football wise?

I heard rumours news of this agreement had been leaked to Fabrizio Romano so both clubs were forced to announce it earlier than intended. If this is true i think we all would have a good guess at who could have been behind that

Dan Neil as well, he isn't exactly rushing to sign a contract is he, Watson didn't, Ross Stewart didn't and Clarke didn't and got moves elsewhere on bigger wages and premier league football. The only answer to fix a lot of this would be getting promoted and paying the correct wage.
