*~*~* Sunderland v Swansea match thread *~*~*

Can’t get my head around this ultra cautious approach.
It took us 15/20 minutes to launch an attack of any significance into their box today.
Against a mid table team who have nothing to play for. Every game at home is the same now why are we approaching these games against such teams in this way surely with the players we’ve got we’re better than this.
Then you wonder why the atmosphere is flat, it simply reflects what’s happening on the field of play.

I think it would be a positive if we just hit some form going into play offs tbh..is that 4 games now not scoring in open play?...
Maybe wrong mind.

Our playoff team is already set and if one of them is unfit/injured we know who will replace them. Games against teams who have also stopped playing for the season won't decide a thing
Swansea looked a lot more interested. People suggesting our present play is good preparation for the playoffs surprises me. I'm not writing us off but I'm not sure any prospective playoff opponents will we worried about playing us over two legs.

Enzo Le Fee needs to play. Theres nobody else who will play progressive passes with Jobe out. Hume tried, Roberts triedalbeit ran into some blind alleys. The officials were absolutely shite, some incredibly puzzling moments. It looked a pen on Mayenda at the end from the NEC, defender nowhere near the ball.

We are awful to watch at the minute, so slow and ponderous, the likes of O’Nien and Mepham have the most possession in the team, we try and go out wide and if that doesn’t work we look lost and bereft of ideas! To try and play the way we are trying we have to have energy and people overlapping to try and create space like we did the first few months of the season, too predictable and easy to play against at the moment

Insult to the fans that performance, rest players all you want, you still need to take momentum into the most important games. Looking forward to another snooze fest down Bristol! At least it's a decent night out.

What an awful display that was. Have we got a discernible style of play? If so, I can’t see it. I’m getting to the point where I’d be happy to see Le Bris peddled in the summer
It may be that compact and counter attacking would be the best thing to do if we go up. However, it's hard to see how we will win the playoffs playing like this. We need Le Fee to make the difference.

I'd peddle Le Bris too, he's done a decent job, but this can't be the future.

Anyone with any idea wtf our plan was to win this game? Cos other than the defence passing it amongst themselves I'm not sure anyone else knew what their job was.

One eye on the playoffs now, i wouldn't be worrying too much about today if i was a Sunderland fan to be fair.

Did you base that on the result alone? They were as half arsed as we were, barely touched the ball and scored off one attack.

It’s a fine balance the last 6 games with resting key players and winning games. Definitely not at it today though

I’M a paying fan. I can see the bigger picture, this game means nowt. We turn up for the play offs that’s all that matters now.
i was going to ignore the PF tonight, because i can't be arsed, but seriously, even you are well aware that we need some good form going into the play offs 3 points in 3 games isn't good enough, no matter how hard you clap those hands of yours together.

Not really sure why anyone was expecting anything else today. Two teams with nothing to play for played a game which looked just like that.
Was it not reasonable to expect to see our team show a bit more endeavour and attacking intent, what that sh!t that O’Nien, Mepham and Patterson play at the back is mind numbing.

No. They ran at us with pace and crossed the halfway line, we walked towards the halfway line then passed back to the keeper. Were they good? No. Did we look better than them? No. Did we apply pressure? Not till the last ten minutes. Nobody around me in the South Stand felt we did anywhere near enough.
