Jack Clarke

No player shone on that day and it’s hard to stand out when the whole side is being dominated. He was also up against one of the best right backs in England who was right up for it and had a very good game .
I can’t see how a player who was arguably the best in the division , can’t step up and at least compete at the level above .
He has done OK on occasions for Ipswich this season but their narrow system was never going to suit him in the long run. Championships best players are good enough for the PL as you say.

How was he found out against the barcodes ffs 🤦‍♂️

Aye he had a poor game but he was literally the only one of our players that tried to make something happen

At the time of that game he was our only attacking threat and was literally carrying us every week.

Show me any winger that would have done well in that game. They had practically three players on him everytime he got the ball because we had absolutely fuck all else that was going to worry them

Dense some of our fans like
Although I agree with you I think that game was a reality check, even O'Nein said it himself. The players we (or at least I) thought would do well in that game, didn't, none of them did.

It definitely was but don’t take away from the fact they’ve got about 3/4 players in that team that would bring close to or over 100 million quid each if they sold the. Tomorrow.

I don’t think our team is anywhere near prem quality but you can’t use the mags beating us as the yard stick like.

They’re one of the best teams in the country as much as many won’t want to accept that

So what happened when he played extremely well v PL Fulham, and scored in both ties?
Fulham were playing a weakened team. Only two of the Fulham team that faced Spurs in the league two weeks earlier started in the FA cup replay. The mags came with their A team due to the rivalry. Also Clarke was more of an unknown quantity then and probably took them by surprise. When we played the mags he was arguably the best / most in form player ont he championship.

I can. It's the same principle as how Sunderland players who were Premier league quality 15 months previously were getting schooled by league 1 players, but in reverse. The top three divisions are very different and it takes different attributes to succeed in each league.

The step up in the quality and speed of defenders between championship and premier league robs Clarke of all the space where he used to torture defences for us last year. Trippier is a very good full back, but there are plenty of other right backs in the premier league who are a similar level and he's also at the tail end of his career.

Development? He's 24 now man, he won't develop anymore that's it's for him , he'll be one of the best in the championship or league 1for the rest of his career. Can't get a game for Ipswich and they are quite frankly pathetic
Still a far far stronger side than Sunderland.

Clarke has played a good few minutes this season and yes, he has developed more as a player.

The Premier League gap has changed a bit since the last time you were there which you will see if promoted.

Clarke's issue is that he was purchased by a club who employ a system that was never going to suit him.

Now you can rightfully say that's where a good agent/representative should be stepping him and advising, maybe he did for all we know, but it was a silly move in that respect and that's not hindsight taking as it was pointed out at the time too but I was apparently "just bitter".

To me it's both an issue of scatter-gun poor recruitment by Ipswich with no real thoughts on how some of these players are going to fit, but the player/his advisors have to take plenty of accountability and responsibility too.

Harte played this very poorly and ultimately Clarke's only option as a result was a last minute move to a club who's style of play was never going to suit him.
The vast majority of posters on here knew exactly how this was going to go. Not because he’s not capable of playing in the premier league just it was a terrible move. He’s back to square one and bar us whod have him back tomorrow he won’t have many top flight clubs looking at him again. Not many players get three shots at the premier league and he will look like a player who because of bad decisions made two bad moves and looks like a player that has had two shots at the big time and not really done himself justice.

Or top of the championship is his level, no shame in that. It’s a massive leap from the championship to prem where the opposition is faster, stronger and generally better player who will closedown more so having time on the ball is a luxury

I’d have him back in a heartbeat if we went up. He’s pretty much always available to play and he’d settle into our system no bother.

I watched the game against Bournemouth and it’s clear that he’s capable of playing at that level if given the chance

Ipswich clearly don't play in a way that utilises Clarkes strengths. It's almost like they bought him for when they return to the championship.

Had they stayed up, I think they would have looked to move him on, which may have worked in our favour with them probably still owing us money for him, but you'd think he'd get a lot more game time next season with his goals/assists rate at this level.

.

When we drew at Craven Cottage, Fulham started Tosin, Tete, Diop, Palhinha, Cairney, and Harry Wilson and Pereira. A few of those are still playing for Fulham regularly, 1 plays for Chelsea, 1 plays for Bayern.

Ross Stewart got stretchered off after 10 minutes and played most of the game with Ba and Michut playing, and Amad playing as false 9. We also finished the game with a 15 year old playing.

Across both ties, Fulham fielded all of the above players plus Mitrovic, de Cordova Reid, Harrison Reed, Dan James, Antonee Robinson and William.

Fulham finished 10th in the PL that season, and we finished 6th in the Championship. Clarke was excellent in both games, scored in both games, and was playing against seasoned PL players. We had no CF for 95% of both games.

But we ignore all of that, and judge Clarke on a shocking 90 minutes against a full-strength, Champions League team in a Derby, when we were playing poorly, managed by Beale, and finished 16th. Everyone was a mile off.

Now, you could judge him on this season of course, but that's not what we're talking about. It's absolutely ludicrous nonsense to write off a player as not good enough for the PL, base on 1 game against a full strength CL team

I agree, and said as much in my post above. But that was the game where his suitability for the top level was first seriously questioned, and for reasons beyond playing badly. A season of getting very little game time in a cannon fodder team suggests it was more than just one off day.

This "still better than you" comeback is beyond pathetic toddleresque comeback stuff.

Nobody was claiming otherwise just that ipswich have been useless this year which is objectively true. You're a guest here start acting like it.
