Ben Stokes “Durham > England”


From what I read the plan would possibly be for him to captain at the tournaments but sit out the ‘day to day’ games. I don’t like that idea at all. You are either captain or not.

The issue with Brook though would be he’d be expected to play all games in all formats, with the added workload as a captain. If he wasn’t expected to, then you end up in the same position where you are knowing you will be actively leaving your captain out before you’ve even announced him.

I know what you mean, but Cummins does it

It’s not like he’d be missing cricket to play franchise stuff

I just wouldn’t rule it out myself,

One thing that’s been obvious is that you really do need a good captain, can’t just blag it

Interesting that it mentions ‘won’t play for Durham next week, as planned’

Positive that there was indeed a plan mind, even if it’s totally new to us. Surely a week or two more will be all he’ll need and given the delayed start to the international summer there’s no excuse for him not being able to play in a few matches for us in this first portion of the season.

Brilliant if true that he’ll play any cricket for us, but a huge frustration that both games will be away from Chester-le-street 🤦‍♂️

Why would he do that though? I watch the one day cup (except when we play “home” games in Northumberland). I enjoy it as a thing. But it’s a reserve team tournament in another format. It’s about as relevant to test cricket as a game of tennis would be.

He'll play for the reason Campbell states.Far from ideal but I'm not aware of a better alternative. Stokes wants bowling practise -and the one advantage of the ODC is he's limited to 10 overs which prevents in from overreaching in his preparation.
