The Electric Horseman (1979)
7/10
Robert Redford as a washed-up rodeo star reduced to making personal appearances to advertise cereal. He discovers the company are drugging his horse, so rebels, steals the horse, and heads off into the wild. Jane Fonda is a TV reporter sympathetic to his cause. Sydney Pollack directs and makes a cringe-worthy cameo. But all-in-all, a decent movie with a great soundtrack from Willie Nelson (who also co-stars). Valerie Perrine is underused in a supporting role.

Omar la fraise (aka
The King of Algiers) (2023)
6/10
Two hoodlums flee France and attempt to make a new start in Algiers. Co-star Benoit Magimel was terrific in a couple of earlier films I've seen him in, but this performance borders on caricature - and he sounds like he's got sinusitis. Algiers plays its part as a beautiful city gone to seed.
