Top Gun - Had never seen it before but Val Kilmer’s passing brought it to my attention again. Thought it was bloody awful  Can see how it would’ve been popular in the 80s, but hasn’t aged well at all.
Awful, only Tom Skerritt's off the scale coolness made it interesting.

Surprised how enjoyable the followup was, Cruise much more comfortable in himself and having fun.

Spent the last few days trying to work out if it’s an April fools joke that Tarantino has written a follow up to Once Upon A Time In Hollwood and Pitt’s returning with David Fincher directing…

I think it’s true?

I think it’s true?

I mean, after the PTA/Leo/Megabudget news it feels like literally anything is possible....

Mickey 17

More Jeunet than Gilliam, the quirky voices are far too distracting. Making everyone entirely thick but making sure you know they are by giving them porky pig voices was a big no no.

Despite that, and the fact EVERYONE is absolutely hateful in it, I sort of enjoyed it.

Bong Joon Ho needs to stick to Korean movies imo, as I find the cultural clash quite jarring.
Oh, and I really find Tim Key about as funny as my cock falling off

I absolutely despised this film. The award for biggest disappointment of the year is already sewn up

For Your Eyes Only (1981) - 4/10

This is appalling! Quite taken aback at how bad this is. Dull and tedious. Moore seems too old, even though I didn’t mind A View To A Kill when he’s even older.
The plot is boring and people skiing after each other is crud. Very disappointed

Iirc it has some rank “comedy” in it too.

4 out of 10 is almost average though? Lol

A Real Pain (2024) - Written, directed & starring Jesse Eisenberg. Two cousins (Eisenberg & Kieran Culkin) travel to Poland as a pilgrimage to the recently deceased grandmother. Watched this with my wife and I have to be honest - it's a bit marmite - she liked it but I wasn't exactly sure whether I liked it. Quite a paced film that takes a bit to get going. Normally I find Eisenberg a bit annoying in anything he's in. His character was a bit of cold fish and takes some warming to, while his cousin is the opposite. However, as the film progresses I couldn't help feel sympathy for him while Culkin's character got increasingly irritating. One of those films that I will probably only watch the once. 6/10

Remo Williams The Adventure Begins (1985) - Fred Ward, Wilfred Brimley & Joel Gray. I can remember renting this out on VHS and remember it being a fun movie. Accidentally stumbled across while looking for some thing to watch on Prime and I have to say it still holds up pretty well. Although I have to say it does have the feel of a made for TV movie. 7/10

King Solomon's Mines (1985) - Richard Chamberlain, Sharon Stone, John Rhys Davies, Herbert Lom. Another film I can remember watching on video and thinking it was a fun watch. Unfortunately now seen through older eyes, I can see now it's a typical Canon low budget production with more ham than a tin of spam! Sharon Stone is absolutely woeful and after reading that she was cast by mistake, I can understand why. Apparently the producer wanted Kathleen Turner because of her success in Romance in The Stone, so said "I want that stone woman" and they ended up hiring Sharon Stone by mistake  (2/10)

This is probably my favourite Bond

Gunner (2024), Amazon. 2/10

Utterly bored watching this, cliched run of the mill action movie. Ex soldier takes on a drug gang to rescue his kidnapped kids.

No more far fetched than Arnie’s Commando but a lot less enjoyable
Roger Moore was in 'some' of the best Bond"s but also the worst one, Moonraker

Moonraker is a poor film but it has that one great scene where he’s pheasant shooting with the villain, Bond misses the birds but shoots the hidden assassin in the trees . .

‘You missed Mr Bond’ . . . ‘Did I ?’ (As the dead guy falls out the tree) 😀
