Northern trains

Announcement on train yesterday on way to Hexham, "anyone travelling beyond Newcastle please sit in the first 3 carriages." Fair enough, I sat in the 2nd carriage and put my earphones in. Arrived in Newcastle, still listening to my music totally oblivious to what was has happening, when a fellow passenger tapped me on the shoulder and asked where I was going. "To Hexham", I replied. "Mate, they've uncoupled 2 of the carriages and this train is now going to Morpeth." I thanked the lad and got off the train in the nick of time. Absolutely astounding what's going on with these trains. I use them fairly regularly and it's utter chaos most of the time. Always expect delays at best or cancellations at worst.

Just seen an article on the new "Northumberland Line" which opened recently and looks like Northern Trains run the service . The article goes into passenger numbers far exceeding expectations and that they may need extra carriages especially when a match at Newcastle . ( According to Councillor Wearmouth ) So where will they get these extra carriages because sure I read on here the Northern trains services to Sunderland on match days are packed like sardines . Does that situation still exist ??

Is this a new "shoulder chipster" slant on things?
The new lines in Northumberland taking away carriages from the Boro-to-Sunderland match day service?

Need to read the thread going back years. Posters have been saying for YEARS the Northern Service on SOL match days is terrible and needs more carriages . Just an observation . I wonder if this is still the case ? . Nowt Chipster about it.

Oh I do read and know about the complaints about our supporters concerns on the line coming up from Teesside.
BUT - I really don't think that we can now jump on the success of the new train lines, and twisting that to suggest that Northern trains are now taking away carriages to run on those lines to the detriment of our home games.

Unless people are mags on here now, I'm not sure what relevance it has anyway considering Newcastle and Sunderland don't play on the same day. Very different situation aswell since there's only 3 trains on it and they're all self contained unlike the Middlesbrough trains where you could double a train up but that will be in Carlisle when the game ends or what not.

Im just saying that its ironic that Northumberland Councillors have taken it up as an issue within months of it opening ( See Chronicle Northumberland Line ) and yet this has gone on for years on the Northern Trains Service through Sunderland on match days .. Thats my point.

No-one cares about the Durham Coast Line as it runs through 3 different counties therefore no-one wants to deal with it hence it's up there with one of the most outdated lines in the country. The Northumberland Line, on the other hand is funded by the council and there's also SENRUG around who are very vocal, as an understatement.

Right or wrong, but that's why pretty much.

It’s a nightmare pretty much every Saturday game. I get on at horden and it’s always jam packed at that point. There’s more two carriages that turn up than the four, I do t understand it as there’s always a lot of people off to Newcastle it’s always filled with groups of young lasses going shopping or groups on their way out in Newcastle. Add fans going to the footy on to normal busy Saturday lunch time travel and it’s obvious these trains are gonna be over subscribed for a two carriage train.

The trains are not fit for purpose and haven’t been for some time. Dangerously running at over capacity most weeks.

They closed all the toilets off last Saturday.

Cracking ‘service'

I’m on the 10 o’clock (ish) from Darlo tomorrow, change at Thornaby for Sunderland, we have a 5 min window, hope it goes well 🙏

The ‘bullet’ service is always less crowded mate, I’d opt for that from TBY

We need more people to complain about their services, Graham Morris always take an interest, but never seem to get anywhere with it. Matt Vickers never seems bothered

Unsure if this has been posted or not!

But he nails all of the issues. Let’s hope we might finally be getting somewhere!

I didn’t realise that Grand Central want to add Seaham as a stop too. This would massively help with the over crowding
