Chris Rigg

Why would Speakman love that? Surely his professional reputation, earning power & personal satisfaction would be way higher if we got promoted.

Also, apart from Le Bris, we have zero connection with what happened to his time in Lorient, so I doubt we’re going to look & say “eee look, that’s what they did & it went to shit, let’s copy”.

It’s like you’re suggesting everyone associated with the club wants failure. They’ve been quite clear that they need to trade players with a better business mind. But let’s ask a simple question. Come July, would we get more money for Rigg as a Premier League club or a Championship one?

There is absolutely no credibility in saying that Speakman would love it if we don’t go up so he can sell the best players & by a load of unknowns.
I'm not critical of Speakman at all. He does a good job wihtin the parameters set for him by the owner.

Aye but we won’t re invest the bastard!
Why would we suddenly stop spending money? Odd thing to say.
The Clarke and Stewart money was used - where do you think the likes of Mundle, Aouchiche, Mayenda, Jobe, Aleksic, Isidor etc came from? They weren't free transfers....

KLD will probably line his own pocket with it to fund his own lavish lifestyle. He’s been doing that since he arrived.
Has he? How do you explain the £8m of his family's money that he put into the club last year to balance the books. Where is your evidence that he is taking money out of the club?

Hard disagree. There has been no evidence from this ownership group that that will happen. 1 or 2 big sales per summer to fund the next level of recruitment.
They’ve spoken about not standing in the way of players progressing. I think a few other than the obvious ones that we will receive big bids for like jobe and rigg will want away and I don’t think the club will force them to stay. It’s the model if players start to see that we won’t allow players to progress then it will start counting against us. That’s the model unfortunately and will continue to be that way until we go up.

Speakman has consistently said he won’t stand in players way if they have developed quicker than the club.

He’d promised Clarke he could leave if a premier league club came in with an acceptable offer and I think a few of our players will have suitors this summer.

Is there any truth in the loan. A loan from Dell is fast becoming the new Paul Scholes in Jackie Whites market or Robbie Keane st Seaham Hall
Probably not. We all know the owners/top brass usually play their cards very close to their chests. But the rumour that it was to aid keeping team together and have a proper go next season makes most sense.

The owner is in no rush to sell Riggs unless Riggs wants to move. If that happens, they will have to accept his wishes and arrange the transfer. I really hope Chris uses his common sense because I feel he is not ready to play in the Premier League at this rate. My gut feeling is that he will end up playing in the U21s at a new club, even though he is a cut above everyone else at that level.

If I were Chris, I would choose to stay. I'm sure that in a year or two, he will get stronger, gain confidence, and be well-prepared for a new challenge at a big club.

Keep him for the best of us and Chris in my opinion

Jobe will leave this summer imo if we don't go up (he may go regardless). I can't see Rigg leaving unless a silly offer comes in (like £37m ) and another 40+ games at championship level would do wonders for him. Neil will sign a new contract here in the summer imo. Don't think he's been good enough to tempt a premier league side into buying him, so a new contract here with maybe a decent release clause would do it.

Similar with Cirkin, i think he'll sign a new deal.

It wont be a big rebuild like some seem to think - it never is. Last summer there was talk of us losing Clarke, Neil, Jobe and Ballard at one point. That never happens in reality.
The club aren't stupid enough to sell 3/4 players from the first 11 and expect to challenge next season

We need to sell someone to be able to compete with the parachute clubs, otherwise the same thing will happen season after season with the parachute clubs strengthening in January & pulling away. When you take into consideration sell on clauses, length of contract of other players etc. it makes sense to sell Rigg imo.

As if we will spend it man! Keep your best players and progress.

Then there's an assumption that players want to leave. Every player has a price tag, that's the way the club is run, but they only leave if a) the price is met and b) they want to go. People are assuming Jobe, Watson, Rigg, Neil, Cirkin, Hume etc all want to leave. I don't think that is the case

How do you explain the fact we have spent next to nothing on players.

Jobe, Mayenda, Ballard, Cirkin, Mundle, Clarke, Isidor, Aleksic, Aouchiche, Abdullahi, Ba, Hjelde, Seelt, Triantis, Hemir, Bishop & Rusyn were all fee-bearing transfers.

Clarke, Lihadji, Stewart, Pritchard, Gooch & Bennette were all fee bearing sales.

How much did we bring in, and how much have we spent?

Don't disagree. Doesn't mean they will all want to leave.

I’m hoping we can get Neil and Cirkin to sign if we don’t get promoted. We’ll just have to wait and see

If they don’t though, then it’s the first big test for us. Neil, Cirkin, Watson all last 12 months. Rigg & Jobe will have a lot of prem & European interest. Doubt we’ll be able to hold onto Mepham and Le Fee.

Hume and Mundle will be attracting prem interest too. Although we’ve done very well holding onto players with decent time on contracts.

If we don’t go up, it “could” be the first big rebuild for a number of years. There’ll be a few we want to move on as well

If it does happen we’ll hopefully have a decent “war chest”. Been a long time since the papers would have been able to use that term for us ;)

The only issue IMO as to whether we should sell him is the price. Anything like £37m and we should snap their hands off.

He's played lots of games, has a good attitude, high potential, and has a sky high reputation. But he hasn't actually done a lot for us so far, and there are no guarantees as to how good he will be. My guess would be something along the lines of Lee Clark - a technically very good, creative midfielder who will have a good career at Premier League level but doesn't have the standout physique, athleticism or pace to reach the very top of the game - but I'm not a scout or a coach. He might have the career trajectory of Jordan Henderson, or the career trajectory of Connor Wickham.

I also worry, like I do with Watson, that we end up playing them when they don't deserve a place in the side on performances, and we focus too much on sales values and keeping them happy rather than promotion.

At some point we need to have a 'win now' mentality - if selling Rigg and Watson enabled us to build a team that did that next season, I'd be happy with that.

I reckon Watson to Brighton will happen this summer. It was only lack of replacement that stopped it happening in January, that wont be an issue in the summer

Hume still has 3 years so we are well positioned on that one. Mundle having just come back from a long injury will probably mean clubs wait another year before any serious approaches.
