I’m trying to look at a positive side of this, is it definitely a three year contract full stop? One thing you can’t aim at the club is that it’s “lax” with its contract policies. It seemed a strange one at the time, but completely out of character to give such a contract to someone who hasn’t been able to get on the pitch regularly for a long time.

Could it be it’s a shorter contract with an option to extend? Could it be he’s got an element of pay as you play.

If it has been a signing under short, aye. But under Speakman & De Freyus it seems like a total left field decision

We have absolutely no idea how the contract is structured though. He may have a low baseline salary with appearance add-ons/incentives and the club may feel like they have a long-term plan to improve his fitness/robustness. It may not work but I'd be surprised if there wasn't something like that in his contract that gives him a bit of security and protect us somehow.

Because supposedly he was absolutely class for sheff wed despite registering 0 goals and assists and having only played in about 70 games in his whole career.
