I’m trying to look at a positive side of this, is it definitely a three year contract full stop? One thing you can’t aim at the club is that it’s “lax” with its contract policies. It seemed a strange one at the time, but completely out of character to give such a contract to someone who hasn’t been able to get on the pitch regularly for a long time. Why did we give him a 3 year deal, if it was 2 maybe understand but there’s no reason why we should be offering lengthy deals like that for him. Bit like offering Semedo a 5 year deal
Could it be it’s a shorter contract with an option to extend? Could it be he’s got an element of pay as you play.
If it has been a signing under short, aye. But under Speakman & De Freyus it seems like a total left field decision
