My next one’s Bootleg Blondie at the Firestation with the bairn. If a tribute band doesn’t count, Mary Wallopers at the City Hall.

Thought Squid were excellent, first time I've seen them. Seen a few people mention black Country new road. I watched them when they supported Nick Cave and couldn't get away with them at all. Tbf I'd never really heard them much up until that point, they just seemed lost in such a big venue.Went to see Squid at Northumbria SU tonight for my first one of the year, very good. Better than I expected. Pint of Black Heart now just 10p short of £7 in there like, not ideal.
Got tickets for Futureheads, bdrmm, Pete Doherty, Pulp, Father John Misty, Kendrick & SZA, Fontaines DC, Black Country New Road and Lambrini Girls for later this year so far. Try and hopefully beat last year's record of 26 shows.
saw them at Durham Uni in 1981One for the old uns.
Combining Crawley away, with the Vapors in Brighton on the Friday night.
Saw them supporting The Jam at NCH back in the day. I think Wellers dad was managing them. One for the old uns.

It's happening far too much now. Kim Deal is missing out the north east as well. Can Music City people do anything to change this? I don't care if they come to Sunderland or Newcastle. Just want bands to play the North East. Just done Mogwai in Leeds. Travelling to Glasgow to see Horsegirl. Not possible to travel to them all though.Belly missing us out in a tour later this year![]()
I'd have been happy to see Belly in Leeds if it was a weekend but it's not, their last gig at Whitley Bay was greatIt's happening far too much now. Kim Deal is missing out the north east as well. Fatty?Just realised I have 4 tickets for Pixies at the City Hall the night before the play-off final. Since it's sold out I should be able to flog them if needed I reckon but will wait and see.
Sunderland have way more gigs on (of a certain level) than we have had in my lifetime. Granted don’t have a venue of the size to compete with Academy gigs, or arena, but I’ve been to 10 times more gigs in Sunderland since Pop Recs, FireStation & the Peacock started putting stuff on.It's happening far too much now. My question wasn't a criticism of the Music City status by any means. It was just stemming from hope that North East cities gaining or going for Music City status may be able to help. Pop Recs and Fire Station are great venues. Not been to the Peacock for a gig yet, but will be going to see The Fire Doors there. The Riverside venue (Melbourne Street in Newcastle) had iconic status so bands on the rise wanted to play there. Admittedly tours were probably longer then, but if a band is playing Leeds and Glasgow why cant they make another stop between?Sunderland have way more gigs on (of a certain level) than we have had in my lifetime. Harsh to bring Music City into it when there’s been an amazing job done so far. There’s always going to be bands that miss out pockets of geography
It's a good point. Up here is getting missed out more and more on tours. Do gigs always sell out up here? That could be a factor i suppose. My question wasn't a criticism of the Music City status by any means. It's happening at the smaller venues more and more n'all. Up and coming bands and medium size venue bands just totally missing the north eastVenue sizes?
Although arena is bigger than Nottingham or Liverpool and only 2k smaller than leeds
Sold out very quickly.I'd have been happy to see Belly in Leeds if it was a weekend but it's not, their last gig at Whitley Bay was great
