Poveda

2,692 minutes of first team football over the past 5 seasons since Leeds signed him in Jan 2020, with 4 different clubs. Averaging 6 full games a season. Can see why based on his outings for us.

Patrick Roberts was dispossed 0 times today, 1 unsuccessful dribble. 75% passes successful.

Ian Poveda was dispossed 4 times, 2 successful dribbles. 73% passes successful.

Pat didn't do great but he didn't give the ball away repeatedly. Poveda did, the stats prove it.

That's what I saw as well, Roberts was ineffective but Poveda was like a dog with a balloon

Still sticking with my opinion that he'll come good for us if he stays fit and gets more minutes. There were bits yesterday where you can see he has the skill but he was just a bit loose with his touch. A fully fit Poveda with the crowd behind him will be a match winner.

He came through Chelsea's academy, spent time at Arsenal, then was poached by Barcelona, and Manchester City as a kid. Played for England youth upto u20 and has full caps for Colombia.

Barely a footballer

He left Chelsea aged 10, Arsenal at 12 and Barcelona at 14 years old.

He never got anywhere near a senior game at Man City and in his senior career he's played at Leeds, Blackburn, Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday...... 71 games in four seasons !! and 4 goals, his last goal was in 2023.

All I see of Poveda is an injury prone player whose football career seemed to peak by the age of 20/21. I'd love him to do well for us, but I see nothing to suggest he will.

It's a real shame we couldn't get the lad who went to Burnley over the line, I think we could have done with some real competition for Roberts. Instead, Poveda just looks like a squad player over any real improvement to push for the starting 11.

That's not to say I don't hope he'll pop up with a goal or two a d a few assists this season, but I don't get the thinking behind a 4 year contract when he's done so little to warrant that kind of deal. A one year deal with the reward of a 2 year extension would have been a better carrot to dangle (in my opinion).

Give him time, when's he's match fit and up to speed, he'll be an asset,if he remains fit.

" match fit and up to speed "

He joined us in July 2024, nearly seven months ago.....
His game time and record over the last four seasons shows a player in decline.

I'd like to think he'll reverse it, not least since he managed to get a 3 year contract out of us... Poveda... the Colombian Ross Stewart.

He comes with considerable credentials.
I wonder if that's all Speakman considered when offering him a three year deal.
Did he actually look at the player in front of him?

How many full first team games has he had
How can you possibly judge him on his game time so far.
At least give him a chance,if he fails then fair enough, but I don't think he's played enough to make that judgement just yet.
The model is in decline if we are dishing out 4 year contracts to players in decline,I'll reserve judgement untill he's had 3 or 4 full games for the first team.
