I was also very tempted with joining him for a beer/chat but those notorious Swindon ruffians with their tagalong battle-squad took it out of my leagueI said I might meet him for a pint so he better not be dragging me into that carry on!!!! Bloody Swindon hooligans
Nightmare for Carlisle. I felt the quality they added may get them over the line, still could, but that’s a grim assessment. There’s some absolute shite at the bottom of that league, defo needs to be 3 up and 3 down, Newport, Morecambe and Colchester, for example, are mediocre year in year out, although the Cowley’s have turned Colchester around somewhat.Embleton gave one of the laziest performances at BP I’ve seen in a long time and told the paddock to fuck off when he got subbed shortly after half time. Jordan Jones sent off for two dives was the final nail in the coffin.
Well done to Swindon though, weathered the early storm, sussed Williamson’s awful tactics out and controlled things from then on. Holloway’s a proper footballing man, knows the game inside out. Hope Swindon on Tour had a good day out, I suspect he did!!
I saw that but it isn't the first time on LN. The new signings are a reflection on the manager and his preparations, are they good enough, fit enough or just all he could get to put into a team? Either way they're there and playing signs & reports aren't good. Today's result says a lot about what's been brought in.Look North just gave the result as Carlisle 0 Swindon 2. It was Carlisle 1 Swindon 5. What Embleton and all their other signings are doing is a mystery really but it will take something special to stay in the league after the latest capitulation.
The above probably says it all about what MW has taken on board and his management. Frustrated players say more than anything really about what's going on.Embleton gave one of the laziest performances at BP I’ve seen in a long time and told the paddock to fuck off when he got subbed shortly after half time. It seems to be. More so after today. They sound like a complete shambles at the moment.
I saw he got hauled off after 50 odd minutes. He should stand out In that league but his attitude looks horrendous.Embleton gave one of the laziest performances at BP I’ve seen in a long time and told the paddock to fuck off when he got subbed shortly after half time. Possibly one of the reasons he was let go by SAFC.I saw he got hauled off after 50 odd minutes. He should stand out In that league but his attitude looks horrendous.
What do you reckon are the root of the problems? Manager's team selections, tactics & preparation, squad quality, players attitudes given the situation? Is it a legacy of Simmo's time?Embleton gave one of the laziest performances at BP I’ve seen in a long time and told the paddock to fuck off when he got subbed shortly after half time. The root of the problem is the manager, Williamson. He keeps going with the 3 (5 really) at the back and it's not working. He wants them to play out from the back and they get caught time and time again. He's too stubborn to change it. Hugill up top is rapid and will score goals but he's too isolated.Possibly one of the reasons he was let go by SAFC.

Your thoughts are pretty much the same as mine (from afar). I'd read on the bleak midwinter about the MW preferred style of play and that rumour said he'd been binnedThe root of the problem is the manager, Williamson. Embleton needs to be doing much more for me. He cocks out of tackles and really doesn't do much. But that's what a lengthy lucrative contract does maybe
The squad is very good for league 2 and the wages are the highest in the league by a long way. Simpson would not have them bottom right now. Williamson and his staff were not a cheap option but he needs to go if carlisle stand any chance of staying up. Go down and it'll be a hard slog and the risk is the American owners will lose interest. They've invested a lot on and off the pitch but will they subsidise a non-league club in the same way... I'm not sure.
Gutted I missed our resident Swindon fan today...our paths didn't quite cross despite numerous phone calls. Hopefully he made it back OK.
With the new barrow manager coming straight from the national league maybe they will pick up some quality in the summer from that leagueHope Barrow also reach safety, still a bit if work to do for a few teams on the edge to be certain though.
There's a good bit of quality at Conf level. It's a stepping stone for a lot of released younger players desperate to make the grade.
Listened in on the radio and deserved a medal! How lumsdon puts up with that infantile in the commentary box i dont knowThe root of the problem is the manager, Williamson. There are some very good & effective younger players at those clubs just outside the FL to work on & with that are desperate to get into FL level. It's a good source to a good coach. With the new barrow manager coming straight from the national league maybe they will pick up some quality in the summer from that league
Newport lost in the play off final in two of the last five completed seasons.Nightmare for Carlisle. First off I'm happy you had a decent day - aside of having too much beer but when it's right to have another oneA cracking win and day out albeit a long one.
All started well getting a first class upgrade from Banbury to Wolverhampton for £8.
Would loved to have met up with @70s traveller and @Sallycinamon.
Trying to catch up with @Gaz4 but we simply ran out ot time. Went in a shitty wine bar not my choice however the Rugby club was great and a few decent ales on tap.
Walked up the road with a few young Carlisle fans, real great lads and as soon as they knew we were just old farts out for a day out they were laughing with us.
Carlisle appear to have an excellent fan zone and look to be investing in the ground / training ground.
As for the game up and until the goal before halftime Carlisle shaded it without putting us under any pressure. As soon as we scored the second just after halftime Carlisle fell apart.
Holloway has got this lot together, no sulking when players come off and makes multi substitutions every game with players coming on making an impact.
We just keep going. 10 men helped and an absolute stupid second yellow.
The natives were getting restless.
The player I was most concerned about and was looking out for was Embleton. He was poor and never got a look in.
Every Carlisle fan wants Williamson out and a few even mentioned that they would have loved Holloway. All fine margins.
Ownership concerns remain but it was a great day out catching up with Northern based mates of old.
Walked straight into Villa and Wolves fans on way home as I got off at Wolverhampton.
Plenty of light hearted banter between the fans.
Knackered today and drank too much but one of the better away days. I like Carlisle as a place. Need to win now or they are doomed. Still think they can survive but games are disappearing fast.
Just disappointed we never caught up but always a next time.![]()
With you or at you???? That's also a fine line which as an old twt I know full wellWalked up the road with a few young Carlisle fans, real great lads and as soon as they knew we were just old farts out for a day out they were laughing with us.

At this point Carlisle would love to have a Holloway to lift the place but they took the wrong option with MW. Put your ownership concerns to one side for the moment you're looking a far more viable investment game by game with Olly. Carlisle & MW have massively shot themselves in the foot it seems by taking Embo, it would be good to see & hear about what his latest colleagues think about him in the club side - same applies to one or two of the other new lads. If MW has set the team so he can play he's caused his own dismissal. Getting the players together is massively key and it seems to me they've gone the other way which is very easy to let happen, it only takes one bad egg to ruin the omelette.
Shading a game means zip without an end result or goal. Carlisle seem woefully short of a finisher & defensive steel.
Make the most of IH because as every fan knows it can quickly turn bad for any club at any level. Similar to having too many beers on an away trip
First class upgrade for £8?? What's wrong with slumming it.
With you or at you???? That's also a fine line which as an old twt I know full well![]()
That's what going to a game should be all about, when it's like that time flies, plus you obviously got out of the ambush/trap with your patter - unless your lot were more threatening of course.Definitely both but they were decent young lads and we walked down the back cobbled road to the rugby club.
We were laughing with them and saying that I hope they were not taking us to an ambush.
What football should be about. All the lot I go with are cracking blokes no twats. If they were they wouldn’t be with us.
Wanted to buy at @Gaz4 a beer. The time just disappeared.
Train coming in was a little late.

@Gaz4 obviously wanted to avoid the likely ugly fracas
