Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Ultimately the club are trying to get to the premier league.

Say we sell him for £7m and that buys a right winger that gets 7 goals more than Roberts and we get promoted, was it worth it?

I'd rather not sell him now but these are the decisions clubs have to make to keep momentum going forward.

I dont think Speakman and Kyril can be accused of being short-term thinkers so I trust that whatever they decide is best for the club.

Quote from RLB today:

“We have players to develop, but if our main goal is to be in the top two, top four, to compete with the best teams, then it is not a period to talk about developing players.”

Maybe Watson won’t get the minutes here after all.

Not one bit. The model isn't to give players away who they believe have a good future for next to nothing.

As said, 5 million won't go far in the English market, I don't think we'll even get that.

There's only two ways he leaves:

1) The club aren't convinced by his ability to progress and so 5 million or whatever it is good value.

2) The lad wants to leave for the money, which would mean he is being very badly advised.

Ok. Would you let him go and increase to wages of Bellingham and Rigg?

Although I’ve stated money shouldn’t be our concern… would you?

I’ve watched Watson with the under 21 s for a while and have been very impressed with him. Some say he will be second fiddle when Mundle is fit but I’m not sure about that. I’m pretty sure given game time he will impress as he continues to learn and improve.
He’s just starting out in the first team and tbh I hope he stays with us and makes his name with us. If we have to sell him I hope we strive to get the best possible price for him cos IMO he’s going to the top.
Way too early to sell and I don't think it would be a great career choice either for the lad . He was growing from strength to strength here . Should be offering him a longer deal here

18 months is not that short like,
Exactly this, most of his age group will be out of contract this summer.

It only appears short because he scored those 2 goals and has shown promise.

Contracts work both ways and the club don’t want to be tied down to youngsters that aren’t going to make it.

There is something a little heart wrenching about losing a lad who came through the academy . The kid looks the future . Imagine if we had held on to the mcconnell at Liverpool and cotcher and the other lads we had the potential to have our own little home grown golden generation . We have lost enough for buttons imo

Cotcher has done precisely nothing as yet.

He's a regular for Villa under 18's. Not even a regular for their under 21's yet.

Compare that to Rigg, Jobe and Watson.
