Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

So on the one hand I don't mind if we sell. He's been an unexpected bright spot, but he's a handful of games into his career. If we get money that helps us now, we basically de-risk on a player who may end up being world-beating, but may also not. Ultimately it's about whether there's a plan for what comes afterwards.

But

This is apples and oranges. Clarke is much older in football years, and the degree of scepticism about how he'd pan out in the PL was based on prior experience for other clubs, but if you want to compare the two players, it's much closer to Tottenham buying 3rd place in Championship Leeds United's 18yr old winger Jack Clarke for £10m back in 2019 - oh, and they then loaned him back for the next season.

With inflation, plus the Winter transfer premium, I'd suggest somewhere between £10-15m isn't inconceivable depending on how they rate him.
This is actually a very good point. Especially considering Jack Clarke had only made four starts the previous season.
It was also a complete abortion of a transfer- a great example of why Tottenham are such a complete shit show.
If Brighton are willing to throw that kind of money around then, we won't be able to day no. However I feel for the lad a bit because it seems to me far better to become established somewhere first before a big move. It's quite easy to get lost in the pack as a young player in the PL..Connolly, who admittedly had a lot of problems ended up.falling through the cracks at Brighton. Clarke had to drop down to league one after Tottenham. That transfer to Tottenham probably cost him a year of development- just as he was getting going.

However, I still think it seems unlikely that Brighton would quadruple their offer to us after so few appearances. It doesn't seem the sort of transfer you would make at the last minute either.

More like 3.... but money talks i suopose
We turned down 2 before he had played a 1st team game. I want to keep him but anything less than 10 million and tell them to do one. I wouldn't want to sell for that as he has just started and is one of us. Let him become a future club legend and his price rises more each season but that depends if he signs on for longer

Where are ppl getting £15m from, i don't think it be that high, max £5m with add ons i reckon
No incentive to sell for 5m. He's on very low wages. He has 18 months left.

How much would it cost to loan a pacy tricky wide player for 18 months? Loan fee and wages.

Remember there's 2 shots of promotion in that period of time. There's a chance we could persuade him to sign as well in the 18 months.

There'd be a tribunal at the end as well where we'd claw back some money, albeit, not 5m.

I just don't see what's in it for us to sell him for 5m. It's good for Brighton that they get a talented young player cheap before he really makes his mark. It's arguably good for Watson, certainly good for his bank balance.

Sorry pal, you haven't got a clue about the game

Young Tommy is a very powerful and athletic player, he's very two footed. His decision making is on an obviously very upward curve and anyone who has actually wated the lad play will have seen this.

I wouldn't say he's our most valuable player ever, but he could potentially become one the top few for sure

He has huge potential, I can see it with my very experienced football eyes
 Wind it in ffs.
Ha'way the balance sheet!
That's the game.
