*~*~* Sunderland v Plymouth match thread *~*~*

Any idea where we can see them?
@chunkyshanhawk53 posted them through the match thread marra
I still find it really frustrating when we take a forward off and bring a defender off. Can’t understand why managers keep doing this.

Subs seem to follow a regular pattern, moving o nien to left back to bring Ballard on. Hjelde coming on as a defensive winger to see a game out is a nonsense when you have Aleksic and Aouchiche on bench who could have carried ball and offered more of a threat and more importantly kept the ball in our possession in attacking areas. When we actually played with intensity after they scored we got the goals and went back into our shell rather than finishing them off.

I like Le Fee, he obviously has quality but yesterday I felt we were playing to accommodate him, rather than playing to his strengths. Samed looked average at best and as I say, the substitutions were negative to say the least.

Hopefully lessons learned and with over a week to the boro game we can find that striker/finisher we need to add to the squad.

It’s the new in thing there worse than sheep for following others

Go in front & kill teams off not this play it safe codswallop

It pains me to say it but those up the road play the game the right way...attack from the start regardless of who you are playing and not relent ...easier said than done I suppose
It all starts with a coach who instills it in the team. Mowbray had it but not quite the team to deliver.

far too many Unnecessary changes yesterday. The midfield was a just a mess. roberts ended up central aswell. We looked clueless

It's just really frustrating.. a massive chance wasted ..playing a team whose confidence must have been fragile to say the least and we put in a performance like that

Yesterday should be the end of Le Fee out on the left. Think he’s got to be in the middle or tucked in from the right as Rigg has played.

Just watched Phil Smith from the echo on YouTube. Apparently Plymouth travelled up the day before the storm. That Would have been the Thursday. The mags went out their way to accommodate Plymouth, use their training facilities etc. Basically Plymouth’s manager knows Paul Mitchell and they set up a two day training camp for them.

There was little to lose by just going for it yesterday. Plymouth were hardly going to hit us in the break and go 3 up. We set the done from the first minute passing it around with no intensity. If I’m honest we were as bad at derby but got away with it

The morning after the day before...

Key points, imho

Bris got formation and starting 11 wrong

Players with one or two exceptions (Hume) were not 'at' it for most of the game. Player ratings reflect this in Echo and SMB

Ad usual we were better 2nd half, but as per norm gave away late goals....after Bris brought extra defender on.

Some loons, as per usual, think it was all Patterson's fault.

Not sure were 90 mins is, it's usually out by now. I'll add it later if it appears

Why couldn't we use it ? Might have helped our confidence, build team moral ! 🤣

We also helped Plymouth by being shite for 90 per cent of the game.

Plymouth despite being shite had a game plan. It was to frustrate and lump it forward which resulted in them almost getting in 1 on 1 a number of times.
Our team selection and tactics were not right but also the mindset of the players was poor as well. You have no right to just turn up and hope teams will roll over.
We failed to score when on top with Le Fee putting a few quality balls in but nobody attacking the near post.
We got complacent and invited them on. The tactical changes were also poor.
Collective blame, Regis, the players could and should have done a lot better.
It was on the cards that we would concede and the Patterson tip onto the post was a sign of things to come.
With this is mind a draw although not at all what we needed was a fair result. We actually couldn't have had too many conplaints had we got beaten.
We have to do better and find a way to put poor and average teams to the sword. The lads are always up for it and more than hold their own against the better sides and then struggle badly against the dross.
If we fall short this will be one of a few stand out moments where we look back and see exactly where it went wrong.

To be fair now that I've calmed down Plymouth had gone to Brentford recently and won 1-0. They were actually well -organised and determined. What the hell happened against Burnley I don't know but I would guess Burnley took most of their chances. We played poorly, should have lost and these things happen. My concern was the end of the game.Truly horrific tactics to shove defenders on. He has to stop that crap.
Ah well that's alright then.
