I worked with a few ex cat lads before and they pretty much said they got released before Christmas then asked to go back in the new year. But I don't think they've layed off for a few years until now. Seems like a waste of time unless you get permanent and they seem really hard to get

Almost impossible to get a permanent contract..there's an agreement with the union and the company that a certain percentage will be made up but it's not many..it's a good place to work regarding conditions and safety but the money isn't particularly good..used to be years ago but the pay rises have been poor so it's just kind of fell in line with other places.
 
Not good for the workers affected
Manufacturing decline started years ago, no doubt there’ll be another part of the world producing similar cranes for less cost, but won’t be as good.
Has Brexit made this worse?

Loads of agencies and firms do this, to break the service and prevent them having to make an employee permanent- after 2 yr or summit like that

It certainly won’t have improved it.
