Jack Clarke

we've sold them a player that hasn't been able to make the step up.
We've 2 players now who can play in that position - when they're fit - who are more than good enough for the championship.
So the model has worked for that position so far.

Let's move on.

I think he could have made the step up to that level but went to the wrong place. Poorly advised from a career point of view but it’s about getting rich quick. Especially for the agent.

I’d agree about moving on if they were fit and playing but there not. Get him back on loan instead of a forward and get us promoted.

Wilson with mayenda off the bench. Clarke le fee Roberts behind

I agree, I did once say he was a bit of a one trick pony, but what a trick!
However if you are not going to play him in that role, not sure I see the point.
It was clearly the wrong move from a football perspective.

If he was my son I’d of advised him to go to Ipswich and set himself up for life. If it doesn’t work out he’ll get another move and a hearty pay out. He can retire at 34 and not have to work again.

Football careers are short if he stayed anything can change and he may not have got a move or got injured.

24/25 years old he had to take the money.
Imagine getting offered 5 x ya salary.

At this level, he was like Alan Johnston. Everyone knew he was going to cut in and get a shot or a cross away with his right but preventing it was difficult. The step up against top flight defenders is a big step (one I think Johnston would have struggled with also), and it was always questionable as to whether he could do it.

But, I’d have him back in our side tomorrow without hesitation.

He was considered the best player in the Championship by many when we sold him, yet some wouldn’t want him back now?

Is it just hurt feelings over him leaving, or?

It's just a coping mechanism I think. Clarke would massively improve our team I don't see how it could be argued otherwise.

As you say he was the best player in the league arguably last year and he hasn't lost that ability overnight. He would be immediately one of our star players. We could do with another winger as well...

(zero chance of him coming back mind)

So if we are trying to build a team that would compete at the next level but Clarkes isn’t good enough, who out of our current team would be?
That is the £50 million dollar question and a complete unknown at the moment, but you would have thought that the likes of Bellingham, Rigg, Le Fee and even Wilson Isidor (and not just these 4 only) would be good starters.
The more valid question would be is the style of football we can play (high press, low possession) good enough to compete in the next division and again that is an unknown, but other than the other teams round about us and the teams that went up last season (IMO), gives us a fighting chance.
What we don't want to do is have a team that does well in the championship, but then needs a complete rebuilding job if we get promoted .

Played an hour against City, one of his few starts. Got subbed off when 0-5 down, he must be feeling great 🙄

*We desperately need a penalty taker FFS 🤷 ....BHH 🙏

They did, we all know Harte was chomping at the bit. If he'd stay here longer and enhanced his reputation further he might have got a better move to an established PL team.

I can remember reading some of his quotes when he left and he said it would have been silly to have turned the move down as opposed to him saying what a fantastic opportunity it was for him.
The reality is that this is football & it should be every footballers aim to play in the premier league. There wouldn’t be many players turn down a move from the championship to the premier regardless of who their agent was. A big jump in wages & SAFC had just finished 16th the season before & maybe weren’t going to be challenging this season, all factors he would have taken into account.
