Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

The more I think about it the less I care tbh. We all know whatever it is called some people will moan about it but the main thing is it's being built and people will generally just refer to it as "the bridge" anyway..

Is that copyrighted ? It’s a company that’s currently trading

I've no idea what the legalities would be but even if New Vaux were able to stop the bridge using the same name surely they wouldn't?

I just think the Vaux name would be perfect. It has the historical link to that part of the city and is a word that rolls off the tongue easily enough.

It's an iconic name associated with Sunderland.

Other than the north east, everybody else in the world thinks Edison invented the light bulb, sorry but true. A university or educational building would be better named after Swan than a bridge. I don't mind the name now but just call it the Spire Bridge,

Most brdges have very mundane names, take the A19 Hylton bridge, just says what it does on the tin. Most are just called after the area they join. I think the Cox Green footbridge is as mundane as it gets. So should be the Sheepfolds bridge and then nobody gets upset as they didn't call it the Gangplank of Light or whatever.
I think the Joseph Swan Bridge or just 'The Swan Bridge' is a great name. He was an eminent scientist, from just along the road from the site, who advanced the electric light bulb. Not necessarily invented, many people were involved over many decades, but developed a working design.

I don't give a stuff what people outside of the UK or even Sunderland think about the name, tbh. It's for us, not them.
The local news didn't even mention he was born in Sunderland when they did a piece on him, saying he was a Gateshead lad. That was a disgrace.

It would be good marketing for the brewery without a doubt. I do remember something similar when the club changed the badge. The majority of fans wanted the nil desparandem and the coat of arms if we were going to go away from the ship but there was a copyright thing there too
