Perhaps if it had been Danish I'd have been more interested...
cross posting this from the nordic noir fred cause its pretty me echoing my own words... out this weekend, was likened to substance when it came out - wasnt surprised to see demi moore win the golden globe for substance as i can see that its a good movie whilst doing nothing for me personally...

The Order 6/10
Another (true) story about right wing nutte....good old boys
jude law is excellent in that, can't say i've been a massive fan of his but in this he a revelation to me.

I only gave it 6 because it felt very by the numbers / seen it before. Won't live long in the memory I think.
Was certainly not a hardship to watch though.

The Order (2024) 9/10
Excellent thriller based on a true story. Jude Law gives one of his best performances. Nicholas Hoult convincing as a redneck neo-Nazi firebrand (who'd have predicted that when he was in About a Boy?). Wish it wasn't so relevant to current times.

Body Double (1984) 7/10
Another Hitchcockian rip-off from Brian de Palma. Ludicrous storyline - not that Hitchcock's films were any better in that department. Melanie Griffith gets her kit off - as usual. (Frankie Goes to Hollywood make a cameo.)

Payback (1999) 6/10
Second adaptation of the The Hunter by Richard Stark. The first was Point Blank, and a third - Play Dirty, starring Mark Wahlberg - is currently in production. Mel Gibson had the director sacked and made major changes for the theatrical release in order to make his character more sympathetic. I watched the director's cut, which is uncompromising. A point docked for Lucy Liu saying 'hubba hubba hubba' ahead of a key action sequence.

Nosferatu (2024)
This was one of my most anticipated movies in recent years, so with expectations slightly lowered by a couple of reviews I sat down today to watch this in IMAX.
First off I must say this is absolutely stunning to look at: the cinematography and set design is just gorgeous.
Those familiar with the earlier films and of course Bram Stoker's novel Dracula (which the original Nosferatu lovingly ripped off) will know virtually all of the plot beats, but despite this familiarity I found this a delicious a gothic horror tale, dripping in atmosphere and full of melodrama.
8/10

Juror 2

Clint Eastwood movie pulled from cinema release, I can only assume due to a row about editing.

This is the 3rd Nicholas Hoult movie I've watched this week, after The Order and Nosteratu.

There is a reason why jury room movies went out of fashion, because they can be a bit boring, and this was no exception.

It loses it's way in the 2nd half, and JK Simmons, despite 3rd billing, vanishes part way through never to be seen again. Hoult is bascially left to carry the last 45 minutes of the movie by looking teary, which he does very well.

Overlord [2019].
Mmm, expected much and was left underwhelmed.
Trench 11 was better with a smidgen of the budget.
6/10, 3 of that for the special effects.

Watched The Order and like others have already said, really enjoyed it.

Haunted Heart, with Matt Dillon is another one I enjoyed and would recommend.

Nosferatu (2024)

Was really looking forward to this but found it underwhelming unfortunately. Was overly long and dragged a bit in places. Didn't really like what they did with the make-up/FX for Count Orlock, and because the voice was heavily distorted and he was in shade most of the time, I felt it was a bit of a waste of the usually Skarsgard's talents.

Nicholas Hoult was excellent and Willem Defoe was great, but I really didn't rate Lily-Rose Depp. Granted she was good at the physical stuff (gurning, twisting her body and peculiar ways), but thought she was dreadful with the actual delivery of the dialogue.

Great cinematography throughout and a couple of good jump scares, but on the whole it was disappointing.

6/10

We Live In Time

I quite enjoyed this, was better than I was expecting it to be in truth. The trailer had led me and my partner to think it was going to be a pretty light, breezy, Richard Curtis-esque rom-com. It was actually surprisingly thoughtful and moving. Interesting non-linear narrative structure, though not sure what the really added to the film apart from a bit of quirkiness. Elements of humour in the (pretty decent) screenplay, really well acted but had my other half in tears at the end.

7.5/10

Enjoyed Juror 2.

Kraven the Hunter next.
Both are absolutely rotten. You can try A Real Pain as well to make it a hat-trick of Hollywood cack.
Watched a Norwegian WW2 movie on Netflix, Number 24, which was predictable and boring. 3/10 showing Norway can make films just as dreadfully as the USA. Anyway well done you plucky Scandinavians for helping win the war but ask was it worth it in 2025 as we enter a dark and very Musky future.

Might check nr. 24 out, imdb & letterboxd ratings aren't too shabby although I'm always naturally disinclined by a Netflix film - have come to the feeling that Netflix movies are like a straight to vhs 80s or 90s movie.

Juror #2 & A Real Pain I thought were both good for what it's worth.

I enjoyed this but it did change down a gearbox two for the second half.

Remake with a spin on 12 angry men that abandons the juror drama midway through for no reason and leaves you wondering why.

In a hurry to get to he twist. Left me thinking there was probably a great movie there somewhere but ended up a 6/10.

I wondered if that was bad editing, and whether that was the reason why Eastwood and the studio fell out. I am sure there was a much better movie in there somewhere
