Bit of a shit way to treat a 94 year old legend putting his last film out as well.

Should have been given the time and resources to go out with an absolute bang and should have been made a massive deal out of.

Probably not a person out there that has a professional resume like Clint across both acting and directing. One of the greatest

I Know Where I'm Going [1945] 6/10
Plucky Joan Webster travels to the Hebrides for her wedding. Trapped by weather on the Isle of Mull she finds herself charmed by the no-nonsense islanders and a local naval officer.

An early Powell & Pressburger romance that follows the traditional 'driven person finds themselves trapped in a small town for a short time and falls in love with the place/people, re-evaluates their life/goals and must decide whether to stay or leave'.
It ranks below their 'greats' (Red Shoes, Black Narcissus, Colonel Blimp, A Matter of Life and Death).
Decent but predictable.

Interesting, I've got that lined up for the podcast

It didn't measure up to their best work for me. It also came out the same year as Brief Encounter and doesn't even come close to it.

I've always felt that, but I know a few people who rate I Know Where I'm Going as the best P&P film. Although Roger Livesey is great in it, I've never warmed to Wendy Hiller.

I watched Beautiful Boy last week. Its a film from 2018 that has your man from The Office in it, and he tries to help his kid who is a drug addict.

I hardly ever watch films tbh, but its the best I have seen in quite some time

As long as he's talking about the original, aye.
The remake is passable if the original didn’t exist. Since that’s not the case, it’s pretty excruciating, with some cringeworthy exposition.

The 1954 Westinghouse teleplay is decent. Not as good at the Fonda film, but a valiant effort. Joseph Sweeney and George Voskovec featured in it.

The more I watch the 1957 one, the more I’m convinced that Lee J Cobb puts in the strongest performance. It’s a fascinating character.

The 4:30 Movie (2024)

The first Kevin Smith movie that's left me thinking "I don't think I was the target audience for this one". I don't think its target audience are even going to enjoy it either.

Coming of age commmmeddddy?questionmark? based on Smith's own adolescent trips to his local cinema. Pretty shallow, uneventful, predictable and pretty dull.

Supposedly a "love letter to 80's cinema" but feels more like a creepy love poem you never show your unrequited love target and end up burning when you realise how shit a poem it is.

I'm a massive Kevin Smith fan. I watch everything he makes. This is the first one that I never intend to watch again. Sorry Kev.

Body Double (1984) - 4th viewing of this and it's now my favourite De Palma film. Absolute masterpiece of headfuckery. Every scene is a subversion of standard cinematic sensibilities.
The Frankie Goes To Holywood scene is dynamite. 10/10

The Order (2024) - Very bland with thinly drawn characters and nowt much going on. Jude Law does all the heavy lifting while Hoult fails to convince (he's a very undynamic actor). 5/10

A Real Pain (2024) - Nowt much going on with this one. Feels like it's trying to tap into the meloncholy/humour vibes of more successful buddy movies like Sideways or The Trip but fails with both.
Boring as fuck. 4/10

I’m gonna make a conscious effort to attack my unviewed and probably un viewed a second time dvd pile thisyear.
I went to look for a dvd to put on the other day and spent ten minutes scanning my collection, ended up feeling like “ why have I got these if I can’t pick one” 🤷‍♂️

I watched that recently with a few other De Palma's I hadn't seen for a while. I like it but it doesn't make a huge amount of sense and I still can't get over Bill Maher being the lead.

Haha. I thought it was Bill Maher when I first watched it. Craig Wasson is perfectly cast as the weedy and pathetic lead. A more handsome and charismatic actor wouldn't have worked half as well.

Nightbitch [2024] 4/10
A stay-at-home Mam becomes increasingly aware of the undeniable signs that she may be turning into a dog.

Dangles it's feet into the surreal without ever fully committing. If the director was braver it could have been good.

The Return [2024] 7.5/10
After 20 years, Odysseus washes up on the shores of Ithaca, haggard and unrecognizable. The king has finally returned home, but much has changed in his kingdom since he left to fight in the Trojan war.

A thin adaptation of 'The Odyssey' elevated by Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche. Also, this man is 62 👇

I didn’t get this film at all, no explanation on why the island had turned to waste, where had all those blokes come from, why he had gone awol and what happens after his newer takes him back

His last few have been poor tbh. But WB haven’t got a clue and until they get rid of that idiot at the top they’ll continue to get a shit ton more wrong than right.

This one tonight, never seen it but it's good.

No idea why these are coming up in German.
Back to 2024 now with
