Mayenda discussion thread

He’s young, vibrant and tries hard. But he’s not good enough at this level at the moment.

Yes, he’s a scrapper with some skill, power and pace. He’s not a natural goal scorer but is only 19 and he has made a great contribution this season. The issue is we are relying on him and it’s not fair. He’s got a future, but here and now we need more proven players to get promoted

There can't be many players playing in a league with as high a standard as the Championship and be as limited technically as he is. It's astounding at times.

There's being raw and then there's being Mayenda.

If he kicked the ball properly with either of the two touches then there'd have been no reason for Browne to be near it. Mayenda's first touch bounced about four yards away from where he wanted it.

I'm sure you're the lad who used to violently jizz about Dylan McGeouch. You've got some nerve critiquing Mayenda's technical ability.

It was his third touch that was manky imo. His first and second were in his striker as he was sprinting and got him away from his man. Sadly, his third when he needed one to set him was a shocker.

I like him . Got a good turn of pace is strong and at 19 making good progress .
His improvement has been rapid since returning from his loan at Hibs ,where he couldn't even get a game .
He will be a beast of a centre forward in a couple of years and will score plenty for us .

Keep forgetting he is only 19 and still growing, he will be some machine if he developes in the future.
Aye, thats spot on we shouldn't be relying on him.

Best fans in the world (the minority, but will claim they are) getting stuck in to one of our own young lads. The lad is over performing this season

Get behind them

Is there anyone getting stuck into him on this thread? Most seem to like him but say he should have done better with that chance. In fact, just about all of them say that.

Ridiculous the comments I’ve seen over the last 24 hours. Calling him shite , useless etc.
Was obviously poor when he went 1 on 1 but the lad defo has talent.

Always forward thinking. Brave when he gets the ball and tries to make something happen every time.

Felt really sorry for him at full time. Was scared to even come over to the Sunderland fans. Thought he had a good game overall.

Keep ya head up son and keep doing what your doing 👏👏
it’s an on-line forum mate, with an extremely small subset of SAFC fans, where the posters who shout loudest are the ones noticed. Mayenda is far from the finished article…. 100%, he needs to really work on his gane and as he needs to do much better, but he’s certainly not shite/useless… 🫣 watching Paul Stewart playing up front or Lilian Laslandes was shite, those slating Mayenda need to go back and watch reruns of games they played and how shite their output playing up front was (Yes I know, PS played cm at Spurs before coming here).

Trevor Francis, Gerry Francis, George Best and Derek Forster didn't seem to mind. This age thing is a load of absolute tripe

Jobe and Rigg are doing alright for 19 and 17 as well. Mayenda is a young lad but, a player of any age has to be doing “something” with that chance and I think it’s composure rather than talent which is why I suggested trying to get someone like Defoe in for a bit to work with him. Not many have had his composure in front of goal.

Even Jewi did ok coming off the bench but he is reet out of the frame now.
He was never given a fair crack due to Clarke being obviously pick for left wing. I still think they could have gave him 20 mins more often at the end of games.
