He’s good for championship and he’s better than what else we have or could buy on our budget. But he’s no world beater and will make mistakes that cost us especially if we think playing our from the back is our method.

Statistically and to the naked eye, he's a bog standard middle of the road Championship GK at the moment, no more and no less.

He's obviously still very young for a GK in terms of age, but with approx 150 appearances under his belt now at the club across L1 and the Championship, I think it's fair to say he probably hasn't developed as much or as quickly as we would have hoped at this point.

He's a very canny shot stopper, however, the main elephant in the room is that his distribution currently is nowhere near good enough for a side who want to play out and build up from the back.

He's the one regular in the squad who if we got a decent offer for, I'd be pretty happy to cash in on. I think we could sign a similar standard GK for far less money and use the rest to improve the squad as a whole.

I know there's lots of paper talk etc about how PL clubs are interested in him, but in the modern game where at that level your GK is expected to act as an extra outfielder (with few exceptions) with the ball, personally I can't see him playing at that level unless his distribution improves dramatically.

I do, I was just trying to understand how he is not seeing what me and apparently most other people are seeing. I wondered if it was a pre-conceived opinion of the player which was causing some sort of block. I must admit I judge players differently depending on how much I've liked their previous work. I only rate about half a dozen of our players, the rest I think are shit, good honest triers, but shit. I probably expect too much of them, but there are people that think they are all great.
Name which players you think are shit

Pickford isn’t great either ball at his feet but more than makes up for it and of course Everton have never been a top 6 team while he’s been there and don’t play like the majority of teams do, but your right i can’t see him going to a big team

Most of them, these are the players I would be sad to see go.

Rigg
Jobe
Possibly Watson (Although it's early days, still on trial)
09 (Probably wouldn't get in on ability alone, but I like him)

He’s a decent keeper. Nothing special but good enough for us at the minute. Any suggestions we should replace him is ludicrous as we won’t be able to afford anyone better

Oh and he’s just big boned.

Exactly. None of them are shit. We are challenging for promotion, strongly, and you dont do that with shit players.

We have a very young squad who are doing very well. We shouldnt be calling them shit.
For this league they are doing well, but most will have an unspectacular career.

Parrying the ball out into dangerous areas, never coming to claim crosses and poor kicking aren’t things keepers tend to get better at.

Anything north of 8m and we should take it.

I like Patto and I dont think he's overweight, however he has obvious limitations

I reckon he's worth about £10m in todays market, which I'd fancy a couple of PL clubs to pay and we should strongly consider it in the summer, with Matty young waiting in the wings. Would be good business for one of our homegrown talent, imo of course.

Patterson is alright, not amazing. Same with Moore who did a decent job with 3 clean sheets in 4 games.

Neither looks like Iain Hesford nor plays as badly as Lee Camp.

For me he’s over weight and just not good enough. He’s the weak link in my opinion. I’ll take the pelters but he’s clearly not commanding his area and his punts up field don’t make it up field. Every where else we look ok.
my thoughts...you are to football assessment what a poliotcian is to telling the truth

I want him to come off his line for these crosses and just wipe out anyone in his way and punch the crosses away. Monty used to say that any ball into the six yard box was his - I'd like Patto to play that way.
