Max Power

Maybe not but I can't stand the bloke either. Embarrassing looking back that he captained the club.

His shot in the playoffs at the end from 40 yards summed him up. Useless, selfish and moronic.

Egged on by 25k in the crowd shouting shoot if memory recalls

Max Power was a player from the darkest era in the clubs history and we’d never want to go back to signing players of his calibre. He wasn’t particularly good even at the level but he never seemed anything other than committed and hard working to me. I think that criticism of him is very harsh.

Always remember He was driving to the Ground from the AOL, think it was raining or bad weather and He stopped to pick up a couple of Fans waiting for the Bus going to the Match....... Although a scouser (Lol), He seemed to be a genuinely decent fella and although not blessed as being the best footballer to pull on our Famous Red and White Shirt , He gave his all for the Lads with the limited Talent He had...Good Luck to Him and His Family, obviously Sunderland Fans!!!

They’re not. They’re all Liverpool fans.

Always the case.

“Shoooooooot”
Player shoots and it goes off target.
“Fuck sake man! Why are you shooting from there?!”

The whole crowd told him to shoot tbf. Last min of the game. Desperate stuff really.
I don’t recall this, mind. It’s usually the case, but I remember everyone just being pissed off and can’t remember many egging him on.

It was a really crap decision, we were never going to score but our best chance, considering most of our players were in the final third, was just lofting it in.

Overall, he was a decent enough servant though and one of our better players in league one.

Sympathising for shit players now, my word. He was gutless and summed up that period of our history perfectly, taking a good wage despite being lightyears from where the minimum standard should be.
What a horrible person you must be.

Can you not see the virtue and logic and appreciating when someone simply tries their best? Are you a parent? Do you hate them if they don't get 100% in every exam, win the balon d'or, win best actor at the Oscars and invent a cure for cancer?

No matter what the field, what the profession, I have full sympathy for anyone who tries their best because I'm not a mean spirited dick.

I always thought he did his best despite him lacking a lot of talent (he was a third division midfielder after all).

I know it was difficult to be in that league for so long, but he's an ex-player taking his bairns to one of our games cos he liked playing for us so much, seems a strange reason to single him out for criticism like.
Fkn hell, I shouldn’t have bothered 😬
I enjoy seeing owt like this mate, thanks for posting

Yes, all of that is the logical jump from Max Power to curing cancer.

He was shit for us. That’s been universally agreed on here though people are sympathising because he ran around a lot and “tried hard”. I’m sure everyone tries hard, that should be a barometer of success.

So because he was "shit for us" you hope he has a miserable Boxing Day watching us with his sons?

Canny mean-spirited that like.

Good that most seem in support of a player who gave his all ( that’s all any player can do ) and is now supporting the lads with his family .The ability side of any player is down to recruitment .

Hope he has great day as does everyone else HTLs

I hope he realises how shit he was and how far away from the standard he was. Yes, I do hope that. The League One years were depressing and it was, largely, due to signing players of such a standard that went on about being passionate and trying hard.

Your logic is absolutely bizarre and either you are on a windup or a deeply unpleasant person. Neither a good character trait.

10,000 wasn’t it? Only game of the season with fans in the stadium.

Max Power, First SAFC captain to lift a trophy at Wembley in my life time.
