Becoming a dad

Tbh, things like that, you just put on the wants list for baby showers & gifts from relatives. Someone bought us the tommee tippee white noise machine, and looking at prices they're about £25

There’s a wish list. I’ve had a few pints, I have Prime.

It’s coming tomorrow

Early days / weeks / months are awful. Ignore the twats who say 'ohmygod its amazing being a father, I feel complete as a man....etc' It's f***ing awful, hard work and we need to be honest with each other. You also have to support your missus who is equally as tired but has a bust fanny.
You get nothing back from the little shit pumping screaming sleep depraving nowt. Like a really demanding house plant.

THEN

ONE DAY

It smiles.
It sleeps for 6 hours solid
It says 'duh'
Your missus returns to (relative) normality

Then its amazing being a father, you feel complete as a man....

I very much appreciate the non sugar coating. Feel the world would be better if more people did that.

Couldn’t disagree more with this shite. Absolutely loved the first weeks, referring to your child as a “demanding house plant” makes you a ****, grow up.

Am on me second and nowt been awful or hard work like. It’s a piece of piss.

Congratulations! In the same boat here, due about mid-April. My emotions have been all over the place but I’m really looking forward to it now.

Just to add some fun, did your better half also request weird shit to eat/drink during the first trimester?

I went to 4/5 shops for a can, specifically a can, of orange Lucozade, apparently a bottle wouldn’t cut it…

And congratulations to you too mate.

I am due to be a grandparent in May and cannot wait. I keep telling my son to enjoy the next few months as his life is going to change dramatically, but for the best.
Congrats to the OP.
The best thing EVER, is the first time the baby says Daddy, it is the best moment.

She wasn’t too bad in terms of food cravings, though there was a period of particularly bad sickness where I wasn’t allowed to cook anything with much of a scent  The mood swings have been tough to deal with at times but she’s been doing great really.

Enjoy it mate, it’s absolutely great.

Aye it’s stressful when they’re poorly, crying, not sleeping etc.

But nowt comes close to the enjoyment, love and happiness.

Also get a Ewan the Sheep. Best £40 you’ll spend.
Second Ewan the Sheep. My little un had a flock of them by the end cos they had to go in the washer so I had to cut the electronics out

Also don't forget to take him round ya mother in laws if he does a shite, proper gadgies dont change nappies there che

It’s tough when they’re bawling their eyes out to the extent you think you’re torturing them and you don’t know what they want or what’s bothering them (it’s usually milk, it turns out, and I’m no good for that).

Other than that though it’s class.

From my experience, first few months the lack of sleep is the hardest. Waking up every 2 or 3 hours wanting to be fed.
Then can be very scary when they're not well, vomiting, coming out in rashes & the like.

It does get better (well depends on children's, mines 2 & a bit, and is still a bit hit miss on sleep).

It probably does depend on temperament of the child. Owa lass made a few friends from baby groups & one of them were saying they were quite judgmental on parents with wild kids as their first one was calm. Then she had a 2nd which was a bit wild. Luck of the draw I guess.

Mine, is just mental. Can be hard work at times, but when in the right mood is absolutely hilarious & going to be a proper WUM when older I reckon.

I haven’t been allowed to turn on the air fryer since week 3, that has a particular smell apparently. Sickness was awful for her but she’s dealt with it with her usual gusto. Thankfully subsided now.

As for mood swings and hormones, she’s previously been pretty fiery and if anything it’s mellowed her.

I’m calling the pregnancy so far a win.

Oh and the bairn is fine, everything’s fine so far, almost forgot that.

My dad has gone very excitable. Genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if he took retirement once he’s here. I imagine you’re feeling much the same, congratulations.

The most frustrating thing is when you’re halfway through a nice story and they start crying. Makes you doubt your storytelling voice and impressions of cute woodland animals.

The first 11 years are easy and you will probably want another. After that i have no idea but just enjoy it as much as you can while you can.
Mine is 11 now BTW.

Another thing, don’t listen to your marra’s who are telling you it’s a piece of piss and nowt has changed. They’re usually the fatha’s who’ll only change a nappy if their missus asks and want a thank you after watching them for half an hour.
