Some SMB members have a canny knack for clearing pubs. They must stink.
Going in a pub with no tellies when there's a match on, just after The Empire and Fire Station crowds have just gone in is given as evidence of the town being dead.
As has been said multiple times on here, in the halcyon days only one or two pubs were busy at a time, then people moved on and the next pubs became busy giving the impression that the town was jumping everywhere. Miss the route by an hour and you were in a ghost town.

Was in keel tavern at 8 last night
Only 4 of us in
Not sure how many upstairs
We have passed peak pub
Not fancy watching the match like? That's what most people will have been doing.
This. The place is busy right now and doing well. They're getting the money I would have spent In the 3 stories. The whole town is doing well and improving. Sheepfolds really busy with market too.

3 stories busy around dinner time, still knocking out breakfasts til 1pm too.

Was at the fire station for it opening to get some food to be told they had no tables as all were reserved. There was nee bugger in.

No it wasn’t, I went passed At 1 pm on way to biz r and there was a few in the window and the rest of the place looked empty

Sunderland was absolutely bouncing last night, great to see. The setup outside the Fire Station is class and was packed, those pizza vans were going down a treat. We all commented how great it was for Sunderland to feel like it did yesterday, long may it continue.
I’ve noticed it more and more lately and great to see. One of the lads was in town midweek and he said the Only Fools thing was on at the Empire and summit at the Fire Station too and the area was heaving. Midweek!

Good point ,and restricted drinking times added to the need to get places on time and not miss the boat . It's all diluted now

The mushroom pizza was top notch when I had one a couple weeks back.

We were out yesterday afternoon and everywhere pleasantly busy. Peacock, Keel Tavern and 3 Stories.
