Nissan

The problem you have is people don’t see new vehicles as critical electric or otherwise. As far as Nissan and the will they won’t they be backed by government the answer is this, they likely will but not to a huge degree. Farmers are being shafted right now and they employ far more than Nissan so don’t expect any huge rescue deal. The shipyards closed and sunderland survived. It will again.

Nissan aren't asking for a rescue deal though. They are asking for a policy change to a ridiculously unfair, short sighted policy that was instigated by the Tories.
And the signs are that Labour are beginning to realise that.

By what iv heard and read . Chinese miles ahead with ev . But also government support and subsidises. The no tariffs here make it unlevel playing field . Also the upcoming penalties from our government for not hitting eV targets make it tough going for nissan and others . Last night's statement from Labour minister speaks volumes. They're listening and going to help. Which is great positive news

China absolutely torturing automotive industry. When or will it end without government intervention
May as well see it as the Chinese market will fall further and further for all but a few western marque brands like Tesla, so a lot of car companies will have to plan for that particular massive market not being as fruitful going forward.
Not sure how the govt can help that much besides throwing a few quid to the uk based makers…. But once one gets a subsidy they will all want the same treatment, and as labour keep on banging the drum about, we are skint so where does the money come from, or rather what gets cut to pay
Rumours they can’t come to an agreement on pay talks. So maybe getting put back
I’d imagine the unions are pushing for the most they can get and Nissan are looking at the tough times ahead in the short term.
Sounds crap but just keeping the staffing the same for the next couple of years and a minimal pay rise/ small lumper may be a good outcome for the workers

Simply have to assume Nissan will survive where industries like ship building didn’t. Cars will always be needed just a unique time with the EV market. If I was a Nissan employee I certainly wouldn’t have all my eggs in one basket and look at retraining or look at a previous career to go back to.

Can't see NMUK lasting 18 months. Once Trump puts his tariffs on Mexican products the, US side of Nissan will be totally f@@ked. It'll be like a house of cards coming crashing down.

And sorting out mortgage insurance.

Cars will always be needed no matter what . Unless we start commuting in space ships in the far future. What will be will be . But . If nissan closes entirely. North east will be massively affected. Economy will take massive massive hit

I very much doubt it’ll close, what may happen is cost cutting and or staff reduction/ reduced hours until sales numbers rise.
Gonna be an awkward year or two coming up, but they should come through it ok hopefully
This is affecting car companies the world over besides the Chinese lads who have a massive domestic market, and Tesla which seems to be the make that will ride the storm the best.

The kitty is empty at govt level so may not see much in the way of cash to car companies direct as they’ll all have their hands out and we are too busy sending money abroad to help their climate crisis, but may see some tax breaks to try and massage the new car market.

Like it or not many potential new car buyers will be lost due to lack of infrastructure and easy and cheap charging methods so won’t switch until it’s forced upon them and more charging options (which are cheap)are available with little to no inconvenience

If I worked at Nissan I’d just be hoping to keep my job rather than worrying about a hefty pay increase

Anyone can see the place is top heavy with middle management with very little to do and earning a fortune . Too many jobs for the boys in every department

The pay talks-
10 % over 2 years
3k lumper next 2 Xmass
Has quietened down mind . I think reality kicking in for alot of people. That never mind pay rise . Keeping job the priority now over the next few years. Fingers crossed 🤞
