*~*~* Sunderland v West Brom match thread *~*~*

You’ll get no arguments from me on that.

But Watson had to go off. He was ineffective entirely in the second half, barely got on the ball and is an 18 year old lad who got roughed up a bit. It was the sub Le Bris got right.
Disagree. Roberts was totally ineffective. Mayenda better on the right.

We had a lot of corners, generally, very poor balls into the area and not one chance made? In January we have to bring in a deadball specialist... is Seb still knocking around.

We did i will admit dominate the game, but probably they had the better chances to score.

Nowt wrong with what he said imo - he gets bullied off the ball far too easily so needs to be stronger
He's an 18 yr old bairn learning his trade.

Should we just leave him playing junior football, or let him learn in the real world?

He played ok tonight, and he will develope the nous and strength he needs. And we need to stay behind him.

"Bulking up" a quick little winger is just fuckin daft man.

🤣🤣🤣

He's an 18 year old winger ffs man.

How many "bulky" good wingers have you ever seen?

Jack Clarke was hardly Arnie ffs.

I can just see the recruitment team now, desperately trying to find an 18 stone winger with a 56" chest that can run like the wind.

Jesus wept man. 🤣🤣🤣

I’m not sure that’s the suggestion. Watson does need time to fill out. As you say, he’s 18. Some 18 year olds have the physicality and ability to regularly start games at a high level. I’m not sure Watson is quite there yet.

As you asked though, some of the best wingers to have played in modern times have been very athletic, physically robust players. Bale at Spurs and Ronaldo at United spring to mind…

Roberts was totally ineffective. But he was still getting on the ball more than Watson in the second half and there was still a threat down that flank with O’Nien being fed on the overlap.

The physicality aspect of it also obviously came into play.

He does need a bit more upper body strength, mind

This season was always going to be a steep learning curve for the young lads. Ultimately it’s one thing to play in the championship but it’s quite another when you get the added pressure of challenging for promotion.

We’ve are on a bit of a blip but we move onto Sheff Utd on Friday.

Obvious that West Brom came happy for a point which I am slightly surprised at

Thought we could be plying for another 90 minutes and still not score

Reckon Rigg needs a rest so a fifth yellow might be a blessing, Watson is trying too hard to impress and how bad must RLB think Ba is to not even give him a sniff over Roberts

I thought the subs were a decent effort to try something different and Mayenda looked good again tonight. I'd be giving him Roberts place

He probably thinks he's as shite as I do which is why he's been frozen out

Roberts free kick in the first half as a shocker as well. It was in a great position to hit the target and it hit the wall at ankle height.
He appears to pull rank and, unless he’s like Beckham in training, Reggie needs to take them off him
