Nissan

Hence tariffs should be introduced to Chinese cars imported at low prices
I got told they have put tariffs on them but they are still making decent profits. It’s not surprising people are buying them when comparing them to the price of a new Nissan. The price hike of new cars over the past 15 years is ridiculous, not just talking about Nissans either most manufacturers. I drove past a Seat/Cupra garage (whatever it’s called) the other day and I couldn’t believe the prices I quickly glanced at, 26k for a second hand Leon estate. I mean each to their own but I can’t imagine who is paying them prices these days. So again not surprising people are buying Chinese alternatives. It’s a bit like wor lass buying clothes off shein instead of all this expensive stuff 😂

The EU have put tariffs of upto 45% on them. The UK has no plans at the minute to do the same.

It would be the same hours worked in 5 days just condensed. Big savings on overtime, energy etc. The issue would be the supply chain following suit.
What's the saving on overtime? Same hours more shift allowance, working till poss 18.00, overtime moved to Fri. Body and Paint doing 11hr shifts. Sounds great NOT

Surely to fuck tariffs should will be introduced to give everyone a level playing field
Problem is no matter what tariffs are put on the Chinese lads, unless electric cars are more affordable, and have at least a minimum life cycle battery wise, say guaranteed for x amount of years or miles, the sales will be sluggish as people keep their ice cars. Add to this a woefully inadequate recharging network it could be years before they properly take off

My last job was condensed hours Mon-Thur with Fri, sat and sun off. Much better work life balance and I'd go back to that in heartbeat, not sure how it would work at nissan though.

Then china has stopped investment in country's that put tarrifs on
Its a fine balance . And also has to be looked at longterm. But . I think tariffs will be introduced for level playing field. And most important of all . Surely a Labour Government will help NMUK . With the unions the backbone of the Labour Party. It will surely do everything to help the Sunderland plant . This is main reason I think NMUK will be totally fine. And if 4 day week/ shift patterns rumours true. Fair enough tbh . Whatever suits the firm to keep it moving forward with no job losses .

The prices of Chinese cars aren't much different to any others.

Plenty of EVs around for less than the £26.5k it costs for the cheapest ICE Ford Focus.

A lot of the buying market will be 50s plus age group . Not been sexist . But a lot of 50s plus women couldn't change a light bulb 💡. So choice of piece of piss refuelling car under a roof as well . Protecting from rain 🌧 and bad weather
Or . Standing in bad weather attaching electricity cable to car . I know which choice most will take tbh . Add in possible queues for inadequate electrical recharging stations half an hour waiting time. Possibly kids in car 🚗 bored etc etc etc . And expensive price of electic cars . And they wonder why market has boomed from day one

Labour haven't helped so far have they, by introducing NI rises etc. People that voted labour have sold the country down the river.
