*~*~* Preston v Sunderland match thread *~*~*

I watched the first 7 minutes and thought we were in for a severe beating. Preston were once again superior to us in every aspect of the game. We just couldn’t get any kind of control over the game. Players were making schoolboy errors. It’s a miracle that we somehow managed to avoid losing which is probably the most realistic positive from the game. At the end that’s probably what it was more about. But we missed a chance to open up a safe gap between us and the teams below. Second 0-0 in a row. For the second time we have failed to score in 90 minutes. At any time we could drop points that sees us fall down the table.
Point away from home is a good one mate👍

I know we weren't great tonight but the BBC match report saying we were fortunate to get a point 🤣 I'd say a draw was probably a fair result
I’m fine with that though

People saying we defended against boro
People saying we were lucky against leeds
People saying we were lucky against hull
And Luton
And tonight

I’d have hoped for more like 4 points than 2 out of the last 2 games but it’s 2 clean sheets in games we didn’t play well in

Put a good performance and a win against Coventry on Saturday and the magic carpet ride is back in the air

There's no doubt he thought he'd got his selection right, the fact he changed it and we immediately looked better proves that he did actually get it wrong though.

He's got to try things though, and I'm not having a go. The good thing is that he made changes and got us back into a game that looked to be getting away from us.

I see too many similarities with Gelhardt in Connollys case. He's just too small to play upfront on his own. The ball doesn't stick, and tonight, there was no one close to him to play off. I don't think we can afford to start games like that. He'd be used off the bench for me or if we're chasing a game where we would maybe put two up top.
i think Regis always saw it as a 30 minute game to win and a 60 minute development opportunity ( obviously hoping it clicked anyway ) . He knew who would come on when .
You may be right re Connolly, but i thought tonight he did one or two things well , notably the near post attempt. Also look at his position and movement when isidor is pushed in the back on the edge of the box . I think he'll finish better than Gelhardt once integrated .

He will go back to the original line up, but they looked jaded last game. He brought fresh faces in and when the others came back, they looked better. He has to use the squad. The midfield were poor. He needs to change but has few options.

I like I've said mate, he isn't going to get it right every week. He was brave in changing his starting line up and it didn't work. Myself, I've always been a fan of playing your best 11 first and then making changes as the game goes on. RLB did that in reverse tonight, and although we'll never know, I suspect we'd have been much better in that first half than we were.

Anyway, I think a point was the right result in the circumstances. It's tough being at the top 🙂

Obviously the manager wants to expand the first team players

Just judging by tonight (unfairly probably) Watson and Connelly do not make the cut
It was good to see Mayenda get some minutes

Too isolated in my opinion. He's not a striker, more of a 10, but we don't play that way.

He'll be useful to come off the bench, but I just don't see the lad starting games unless it's due to injury of others or RLB tinkers with formations over the course of the season.

Just accept it when he gets stick for being poor & that’s generous
He wasn’t poor, and he’s rarely been poor all season, you just don’t know what you’re talking about. Sorry that you waste your time watching a game you dont understand.

Be a different player when fully up to speed with Jobe and a firing Paddy Roberts on the pitch . Hes a clever player you can see that

Well unfortunately for the fan boys the majority on here agree , another poor performance tonight
You lot can keep burying your heads in the sand
It’s very odd behaviour

We are incredibly hard to beat and our best could well be to come. I’m actually increasingly confident. We give nothing away.

It’s you and a couple of others, constantly man. How lacking in self awareness can you be?

You won’t find many on here admit they have a young Henderson stick, it will be the same with Neil years down the line.

It won’t
That’s why he’s still here

The most frustrating thing tonight, which I really hoped was a one off during our last x amount of away games, even though we won some of them. Was the fact we have created next to nothing, half chances galore at best. Tonight was probably our worst game in front of goal, as we created nothing.
