*~*~* Preston v Sunderland match thread *~*~*

I don't think there's any doubt that playing Wilson upfront, Mundle out Left, and Roberts on the right would have seen us play better. I'm not sure what you were watching mate, but the front 3 he did select didn't work.

Fair play to him for having a go, but he changed it because it wasn't working. The subs weren't through design.
The front three only got the ball down the right, in the first half, where they were strongest. We played a bit more down the left the second. Did our front three look any better v QPR, no.

Not at the races tonight and lucky to take a point….we move on and hope we can perform better on Saturday.

By the way what an absolute bellend heckingbottom is clearly ignoring his number 6 making at least 4 yellow card worthy challenges and the constant off the ball fouling they were allowed to get away with.

If he wasn't from Sunderland and young, I think he'd deservedly get even more criticism than he does. Often dwells on the ball too long and is weak. No comparison between him and both Rigg and Jobe in terms of ability. Sadly the lack of a DM is costing us recently I think. I actually think Mepham could do a great job there once Ballard is fully fit.
Utter rubbish.

I think if Isidor had played up top rather than Connolly tonight we would have had a different result, with Watson on the left, and Roberts on the right. Connolly is only ever going to be an impact sub for us and that's when he's fully fit, which he isn't anywhere near yet. In a physical league like the Championship he isn't going to cut it as a lone striker.

He looked mentally disturbed by the methven tackle

He won’t last long in football management if something like that pushes him to the edge

Connolly couldn’t cut it in the Ismithian South League 2

Do you think he'll start with the same front 3 on Saturday as the one he started with tonight?....nope.

As I've already said in another post. I think RLB would have thought his midfield would have taken hold of the game more, but they didn't. That just pointed out the obvious fractions in the 3 upfront when our main goalscorer was out wide left, and the ball was being lumped up to Connolly, who was one of the smallest players on the pitch.

He got his selections wrong, then rectified it 2nd half....there's really not much else to say about it. He's not going to get it right every week, and there's lessons to be learnt for both him and some of the players after tonight.

I watched the first 7 minutes and thought we were in for a severe beating. Preston were once again superior to us in every aspect of the game. We just couldn’t get any kind of control over the game. Players were making schoolboy errors. It’s a miracle that we somehow managed to avoid losing which is probably the most realistic positive from the game. At the end that’s probably what it was more about. But we missed a chance to open up a safe gap between us and the teams below. Second 0-0 in a row. For the second time we have failed to score in 90 minutes. At any time we could drop points that sees us fall down the table.

He will go back to the original line up, but they looked jaded last game. He brought fresh faces in and when the others came back, they looked better. He has to use the squad. The midfield were poor. He needs to change but has few options.
