*~*~* Luton v Sunderland match thread *~*~*

I'd like to think Dodds and Proctor would have briefed him as I doubt he's ever witnessed anything like that in France.

It made a massive difference to us having Mepham and Cirkin challenging for long balls rather than likes of Gooch like the last time we played Luton too.

The lads take most of the credit for me. They never took a backward step against a team of absolute shithouses.
If mepham carry’s on in this form till may he’s got free rain on our lass (No)

You'd think the refs would all be well aware of how Luton play if they know they are getting away with it. I can only assume the ref doesn't like SAFC, that's how blatant it was.
I have no problem with them playing long balls. It's shit to watch but it takes all sorts. But the amount of times they literally pushed us off the ball without a foul given was ridiculous. Every time we ran with the ball it was pull, push, foul. It was that blatant.

There were 2 challenges by their CF in the first half that deserved a booking, commentator (jock bastard) just leading with his arm???

I think that in his 2 games so far Connolly has shown a lot of "game smarts" , he's winning free kicks and breaking up the game, would have gone mental if he scored from the DN through ball, just felt at the time it was a lit bit of match sharpness rather than ability that let him down.

True. You could see that split-second hesitation where he lost the shooting opportunity.
The lad will come good for sure.

The last time we played Luton was like land of the giants, they had a golden opportunity to get to the final and they took it. It was awful watching the up and under set pieces as we knew we couldn't compete. Tonight we showed them the real SAFC and they had no answer.

yeah , he is nowhere near playing on automatic yet . Not just cardio fitness he hasnt played much this season or last really , not with any fluency anyway . As to say , give him half a dozen games and he'll be pulling the trigger
From what we’ve seen though there’s a hell of a player in Connolly once he’s fit. He’s so intelligent and rolls defenders very well. He’ll be an asset for us in time

Doesn't half make a difference when we can actually name a first XI with a bit physicality and experience in it. Compare that to the second leg of the play offs down there when we had Roberts and Gooch at the back and were getting peppered by balls in for most of the ninety minutes.

Massive fan of Alese but his injury might actually end up being a huge stroke of luck if it helped us quickly find out about Mepham's availability. What an absolutely huge difference he makes to this side.

Was way slow on that finish mind , but the bit of ratting he did in the last minute in our half was quality
Aye Connolly could have put the game to bed and saved our blood pressure, not sure why he hesitated and slowed down only to lose the ball. Put it down to ring rust, other than that he did some nice play and held the ball up well.

The silly twats had a lap of honour for getting beat..lol.

Anyhow it is doubtful Luton fans could have much of a celebration of an away win even in the back seat of a taxi..too much space between the two of them

Aye one of them had 3 goes at Wilson near the corner flag and nowt given for any of them

Worst one - that could have cost us - was the ball breaking to their player in the edge of the box in the second half. O’Nein moves to get a block in and Morris cynically yanks him back. Credit to O’Nein for still somehow managing to hoy himself in front of the shot.

He will but he's going to need more than 15 min cameos to get there though
He’ll get there. No need to rush him with Isidor fit and flying himself. Gives us a lot more options though - very different to isidor and to Mayenda (who’s basically forgotten about now), and means we can look to use both Connolly and isidor as widemen at stages too if required
