Ross Stewart

The transfer fee has fuck all to do with the wages being paid.

God help anyone signing on a free transfer if that’s the case
of courser they are linked...a £10mn player will want wages befitting a £10mn player..
a £20mn player will want paying like a £20mn player..

Whats a free transfer? If its an in demand bosman player the lack of a transfer fee to pay has a huge impact on the wages..they can ask for more.
If its a free transfer of somone shit..they have no argaining power

It does, but it's not a rule - only a very rough ballpark figure. Agents know that if a club has agreed to pay a big fee, they really want the player and will be prepared to pay the wages that go with it. Clubs know this and factor it in when they're bidding.

(But there are loads of exceptions and you've rightly pointed out the obvious one - when a player is out of contract. And in the final year of a players contract his transfer valuation is declining, and doesn't represent a player's true value. Also players who sign in one league and get relegated or promoted, will likely have adjustment built into their contracts.)

It's why we couldn't have replaced Clarke by buying a £15M player with the fee Ipswich are paying us. We have the £15M to pay a fee, but we couldn't afford to pay the wages that any £15M player would demand. Fortunately we found another young bargain in Mundle. ;)

He was but so was Kevin Phillips. So was Tommy Sorenson, so was Marcus Stewart, Julio Arca, Cisse, Darren Bent, there are scores of fantastic players who gave great service to this club. Players who don’t seem to merit the same aclaim from fans on here.

As we have agreed elsewhere context is everything. Whilst must of those players brought glory LND saved us from a pitiful existence. His contribution is more in line with a Gates for getting us out of third division and then keeping us up.

Way over that - at least double, probably significantly more than that. So'ton had parachute money.

If he was only looking for £10kpw, we'd have given him it ages ago.
Ross is on £28,000 a week according to Southampton journalists. It will help cushion his pain.
We should just remember the good times we had with him here. Brilliant the year we went up as play-off wiiners and - If he'd stayed fit - I'm sure we'd have gone up again the following year.
Great signing and, in retrospect, looking like a great sale, too.

All of the quotes of this wage that I've seen outside of here are from random southampton fans who are more than likely just spouting that to soften the blow that they've absolutely had their pants pulled down

I feel for the lad being injured all the time must be souls destroying. We did amazingly well with the transfer fee given the injuries and that he’d only ever played at championship level for a handful of games.

Wild that Ross Stewart and Broadhead are in the prem but we're better off without them.

Clarke is there too and we haven't missed a beat.

Not sure what to make of that just a strange thing.

Aye a strange thing, was the same when Suggett and Todd left as well as Martin Scott

He did a very good job for us but chose to leave as soon as his head was truned. Don't wish anyone any ill but no interest in ex-players who show no loyalty.
Or he was obviously well aware of his injury record and an opportunity came along where he could cash in knowing that his career could end at any time

I still think it was a fair gamble for Southampton to take him, even if it didn't pay off. He was a hell of a player, and they had the money to burn due to parachute payments.
