CC : Surrey v Durham

If the title was on the line and Stokes was available/fit then I'd expect Stokes would want to play for Durham. However England would prevent that. Potts insisted on playing for Durham this week which says a lot about the lad and the culture Campbell has created

The reality is the pressures on the top players is vast, and they are away from home loads and playing loads.

It’s no wonder there are so many mental health issues in cricket. Stokes is the perfect example. Pushed himself too far, look what happened

If they want to play, good, they shouldn’t get criticized if not though

I’d have been confident about potentially giving them a bloody good game if the likes of Potts and Bedingham were available. Yes they are missing players too but they have more strength in depth.
What's the reason for Bedders not being available?

Cant see him in the squad for South Africa ODI series against Afghanistan?
As far as team news is concerned well we'll be without Bedders (rumours that Gay will be eligible to play are as yet, unconfirmed)
Missed you said it on OP. Why is Bedders not available? He wasn't in either South Africa A red ball squad nor the ODI squad which both have games tomorrow/next week.

RE Gay Bostock said he on Comms he was available for selection for Lancs.

He just made 150 in his last test

Would you be expecting stokes to play for Durham if he was fit?

I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that Stokes will play one of our remaining games. BUT, even if he doesn’t, he’s the kind of bloke who is always keen to play even if FTECB don’t allow it.

Surely not. He's the centre of England cricket, pretty much everything worth bothering about revolves around him. Wrap him in cotton wool.

Test cricket pays the bills and the counties produce the players. Like any child, when the time comes we just have to wave them off and hope everything we taught them holds them in good stead for the future.

Of course, as the (ft) ECB continue to destroy this relationship the counties should really just salt the soil. But we're not there yet.

There are plenty of issues, and blast finals day in the middle of a white ball series is a joke, loads of stuff like that

But the test stars not playing CC isn’t one, Pope played loads earlier in the year. He might play, and good on him if he does, but shouldn’t be criticized if not

Potts bowled 50 overs last week like
Also on the Cricket SA website

Crackers that, dropped?

As far as team news is concerned well we'll be without Bedders (rumours that Gay will be eligible to play are as yet, unconfirmed) while Potts and Carse are on England duty and we also could be without leading wicket taker Ben Raine although I expect Hogg to return and while Coggs played for the 2nds at Gosforth this week... but only as a batsman.

Weather looks sunny and dry with temperatures reaching 23°C.

It's going to be difficult but let's get into them and give them something to think about. Haway Durham !!!
Looks as if Bedders will now be available and Campbell also intimated that Coggers was now available so presumably able to bowl.Hoping also that Raine hasn't to take paternity leave yet so optimistically we go
Lees
McKinney
Gay
Bedingham
Ackerman(capt)
Robinson
DeLeede
Raine(Holder)
Coughlin
Hogg
Parkinson.

Admire your optimism, but I’d be amazed if Borthwick was dropped.

Yes, clearly plan was Gay available for Bedingham but it's pretty clear from the new signings that Borthwick is not in future plans. Currently averaging <20 for the season so can't complain.
I don’t disagree with you, but I’d still be amazed if he was dropped.

Campbell said at a pre season talk in at CLS CC that nobody was guaranteed their place (including the captain), but he has probably had cause to drop Scott at various points this season and it hasn’t happened. Can’t therefore see it happening now?

As i mentioned earlier i don't see Borthwicks future as skipper but i think it would be cruel to bin him now with two matches to go and our division 1 status safe.

Both posts perfectly true. It would be unnecessarily ruthless to remove Badger now.Doesn't alter the fact that Gay for Scott would give us a stronger X1 which is what a club should always field.
