Tom Cannon bid in - now signed for Sheff U.

I’m really concerned you’re right. I’ve thought it all along to be honest…

It’s blind hope now that we deliver a Cannon or someone of that class.

Strange thing is I can see them signing the two midfielders (loan from France and the Serb for decent money) - we seem to be allergic to signing an out and out forward, it’s totally bizzare.

It is very strange. It's like they're trying to prove a point to themselves that they won't overspend at all costs, despite the cost being a lack of a crucial position on a football pitch.

I don't have faith we'll have brought in a striker by the time the window closes, although I did say at the start of the Summer that the priority should be an experienced holding midfielder, which (touch wood) we seem to have been able to sign.

No idea. There’ll be an option to buy.

Regardless. Having actually banked some decent money and STILL not having bought a proper number 9, four transfer windows since we’ve had ANY striker is unacceptable,

Still time but fuck me, people are already beginning to brace for the Speakman ‘we pushed hard’ bullshit.
If they only spend a fraction of the Clarke money then I'm not sure why people will scream at Speakman. He's not in charge of the finances.

Cannons on 8k a week
8k ok. That was his wages when he signed on the youth team. Good grief 8k A week nowadays. He is on about 40k a week. And that is cheap.

People think premier league footballers earn 8k a week. It isn't 1995 anymore.

How many times? We have signed a striker. And we have another who has been playing so far.

We need another, but stop pretending we don’t have any.

Theres players in the national league earning more than 8k a week. Blimey.

Let’s be honest, O’Neil has played CB for three seasons now and some refuse to accept he’s a defender.

Isidore himself said he is a striker who can also play on the left or right. unless we sign someone who has never played any other position some posters will claim they’re not a striker. I think they genuinely just enjoy complaining about it and don’t want to give it up.
That Russian interviews thingy said he was relatively poor as a striker and improved measurably when put on the left.

Just saying like….

There’s that many outcomes by 11pm tomorrow, it is going to be interesting and most likely “click bait” central for online journos tomorrow. We’ll be linked with loads I bet.

We’re either going to be very pleasantly surprised or absolutely furious 😂

The lad himself says he is a striker. People are just obsessed with the idea that anyone who has played as a wide forward must be a winger.

It could be a halfway house where some are furious that the last bits of business we do are exclusively very young, unproven at any level type players whilst simultaneously others are delighted that literally anyone has been brought in and because they’re young they’ll automatically be labelled as ‘exciting’

Not sure how many times I need to raise the point that EVERY fan group, journalist who has seen him play comment that he is ineffective in a lone striker role, gets easily bullied by centre halves, doesn’t hold up play very well.
They say he’s way more effective on the left cutting in.

I hope he turns into the next Terry Henry but EVERYTHING written about him says he’s not best used as a lone striker - i.e the system we play.

Good point to be fair.

The one position that needs filled with quality for me, is a centre forward.

Happy to have the two midfielders in, add some depth (especially if Ekwah is off), but the striker is non negotiable to me.

Clarke gone and Wilson on loan is a disaster result for us. Can’t dress it up any other way.

Going to be the most interesting deadline for us in a good while I think.

Not if Leicester bought him for £7.5m he isn’t.
8k seems shy, but 47k seem equally as off id say.

Somewhere around 20-30k would seem about right for when he signed, could well have had a pay rise based on them going up like.

Then it’ll come down to if he wants to play or get paid to sit on the bench (if he’s lucky).

So the same as Stewart then?

I find it really difficult to get furious to be honest. On the whole, bar the second half of last season I've enjoyed the football under the current ownership, and therefore have no complaints re: the model/transfer policy. How could I given the reasoning? It's likely the same reasoning KS and the ownership give themselves as an excuse for it taking so long to bring one in too.

It's a massive piss take that we haven't had a competent/recognised striker for this long though, especially when you consider that since Wyke left, the only one we've had is Stewart that hasn't been on loan. Add to that that we knew Wyke was leaving in his final season, it's been around 7 or 8 windows in which we could have brought another in.
