Is Boro a derby?

My mate's question to me when I asked him was this, if Boro wins anything FA Cup, League, etc would it bother you? The answer to this question is no so that is now my answer as to whether it is a derby or not.
I couldn't give a fuck if the Mags win anything.

So is that now not a Derby?

Let's face it, if you're not a top 6 Prem side, you are ganna win fuck all anyway.

Depends on your lifetime marra.

Not in mine they haven't.
They've largely been conspicuous by their absence.

Still a lesser Derby though.

Well in my lifetime following Sunderland (November 95) the only real highlights have been 7th place finishes which should have been higher and got to one major cup final. Sadly I've seen relegations with the lowest number of points twice, relegated to the third tier where we ended up for four years.

In the same time frame Middlesbrough attracted at one point some of the biggest names in football, won a major trophy which got them into Europe and even getting to a European final.

Yes its a lesser derby I totally agree but still has far more meaning than most other matches we play. I mean it is likely we'll get around 2,000 tickets again and the demand will be big when most other games will either make general sale or be very low points.

That's actually canny reasoned and fair, I still think of it as a derby but was right behind them that night in the Uefa cup final.

Bit of a stretch that like

Like I said marra. Depends on your lifetime.

I've also seen Boro locked out of their own ground because they were so skint.

Seen them spend two years in the third tier, 34 (9 more than us) years in the second tier, and win fuck all apart from a league cup.

So Ravenelli, Juninho, Emerson, Merson, Gazza etc werent big household names then?

The one where we won 2-0?
Ravanelli was

Juninho was a real talent but he was hardly a massive name when they signed him, and he went to Atletico and did ok at best

Emerson absolutely was not. Certainly not bigger than Schwarz

Merson was excellent for them but signed in the second tier. And Gazza was well past his best. So we could say Waddle and Yorke were our comparisons.

Not that different then , really.
9 more than you in 2nd tier
Less than half your total in the third tier
One trophy each ( unless you're very VERY old).
Plus we've played loads more European matches than you.

Not having a go - just saying both our performances in a long time now haven't been that different (or decent)
I've done fuck all?
😁😁
You should be honoured mate.
Getting called a mag and a Boro fan on this forum

Not a derby IMO, Boro fans want to seem relevant in the North East even though they are now classed as from North Yorkshire and not County Durham anymore. Although it is always nice to beat the two headed smogmutants and see them lose to other teams just like the hammering they got off Stoke in the cup at home yesterday
