Average over 50 and has played just 9 first class games do we really not have someone better at this stage? He might become a decent player but he should be being allowed to develop first.

TBF, they made a good call about Bashir. Despite having a short and inauspicious county record he has looked a decent test bowler.

I think it’s their way of saying “we’ll do things our way”.

It makes a mockery of the CC and will lead to more players taking lucrative contracts in the shorter forms of cricket
 
I can see why they picked him.. very tall and a left hander.
But, only 11 1st class wickets, has only bowled 184 overs in 9 matches. Not only has his body not yet matures but neither has his brain, yet. I would have given him another couple of years, personally.

England, as we know, are super hot on managing fast bowlers workload, how are they going to do that on tour when the pressure is on? I wonder how they'll feel if he breaks down.

Having said that, there is a history on picking players who have talent young and without masses of experience. Gower, Botham both first picked around the same time and around the age of 21. And Stokes, of course at the age of 23(?), however Stokes didn't bowl much at first because of injury iirc.

Hogg must be taking looking at this and wondering if it can happen for him too - only a few months younger and a better wickets/match ratio (on the basis on one match).

They'll be looking at bowlers to see how they get on within the team and if they gel, Flintoff left England squad cos he didn't gel with Buttler

Last year I went to see Leicestershire vs Gloucestershire at Grace Road. You could see he was fast. He was also wayward. After bowling several beamers the umpire removed him from the bowling attack for dangerous bowling. No point being fast if you can't bowl a good line and length consistently.

If anything, he represents that misguided obsession with pace associated with the bazball period.
 
Watched him in the ODC final in 2023 and he was fantastic.

Wouldn’t surprise me if England’s “coaching” has set him back.
