I was gutted when Terry Butcher flogged Gary Owers. I thought he (Owers) was a world beater. He wasn’t, I’d just watched him every week and formed that opinion.

Jack Clarke struggled against Al Qaeda in their FA Cup Final. That’s his only competitive appearance against Premiership defenders for a while.

I hope it works out for him at Ipswich and that he continues to improve but £15 million seems a reasonable price. Fans who are demanding far more are getting carried away (just in my opinion - and I’m sure the usual slating will follow).

Fair point about the cup game, I was hoping for more but I guess when you take that into account it seems a fairer valuation.
 
I get the impression that Clarke was always going to be sold this window. That decision would have been made ages ago. The contract extensions for the other ‘assets’ also suggest this was probably the case. I think, as fans, we need to accept that we’re going to be looking at selling a player for decent money each season as long as we’re still in this division.

What hasn’t manifested is the interest as probably envisaged. Hence why he started the season with us, and which has ultimately forced our hand to sell at what seems to be a fairly low ball price. There simply wasn’t the interest/bidding war.

I think there is a question mark to whether he can effectively make the step up, which would explain the lack of interest in him. You never know, we might look back and consider this a good price……

It's hard to say promotion is the aim when it seems we were desperate for someone to put a reasonable bid in for him, so we could keep the lights on and sign a few more punts that mostly haven't worked out

It’s not long ago the club were saying they don’t need to sell anyone, and a lot of reports saying they’d valued him at £25m. Then they sell for £7-£10m less. Thats why people aren’t happy

No it isn't. It's what all clubs do when they receive a large offer for a player, and the player wants to go and play in a higher league. Sell.

The model is all about the recruitment, buying and development - the things we've got control over. The model is what brought Jack Clarke to Sunderland.

Yes.

In the end player's value is not determined what the fans think. Nor what the club thinks. It's what a buying club is willing to pay.
