Jack Clarke

What a dreadful decision by all parties except for Ipswich this proposed deal is!!

We lose our star player for 15m plus some add ons that may never be paid.

What can you buy with 15m? Not another Jack Clarke.

Is the team worse without him? Yes.

I’d be interested to know how much we paid for him, because reports were between 6-8 million at the time, plus a sell on clause.
Well knock whatever the fee was off 15m, then deduct the sell on clause for Spurs and that can only be a few million at most profit. Barely enough to sign Will Grigg back 🤦🏻‍♂️.

Joking aside, it isn’t an amount that would get my mouth watering as compensation for losing our best and most effective player.

Another point. Why on earth Clarke wants to go to Ipswich is beyond me? They’re a Championship team having a season in the Prem. He’ll be back in the Championship next season or peddled onto another club.

He should keep developing with us for this season and maybe next. This is a dreadful move. The ONLY sense in this transfer is that Ipswich have given him a multimillion pound contract that he just can’t turn down and will set him up for life. For that, it’s difficult to knock him, as we’d all do it. But for us, I can’t be any positive in this move.

We’ve made a great start to the season, genuinely look superb so far and we go and sell the main conduit to that team and system. Backward step.

We've made 20m - 25m profit on him and Stewart.

The only players I can remember making any profit on in the last 20 years barring academy products are:

Bent
Van Aanholt
Wickham

I may have missed some.

But the model can't be denied to be working from a financial perspective.
Or it just allows us to lose less money, we still lost £9m last season despite selling Stewart.
Like it or not this is a dead end league financially so not sure we can ever be truly sustainable down here.
Sometimes small term losses are needed for long term gains, i.e. building a team capable of promotion to get to the league where clubs can potentially be ran on a sound financial level.

What we’ve done is sell our best player, and highest goal scorer by a mile, and a big part of anything that could be described as a promotion push, for maybe £15m quid over the duration of clarkes new contract.

If he does sign the pressure is gonna be right on speakman and the club to spend well and perform well to show it was the right choice

Genuinely amazed at how many people are using various ways pf justifying us not getting market value for him. 20m or you don't get him, not 15m + maybe 5m.
I would have lived a bigger fee, but the biggest block to that appears to be lack of interest from premier league clubs.

Some fans will still believe KLD and co when they bang on about promotion. We have a poorer team now than the one that narrowly avoided relegation last year. Le Bris must have a feeling of deja vu after what happened to him last year.

Is that not the long game though?

Or is it worth the risk of going for it one season, spending over and hoping it gets you up?

I don't know the answer mind.

For all his brilliance I found him frustrating at times, we can get by without him. Definitely could change a game that is the biggest miss and his goals especially last 2 seasons need plugging. But we are early on in Regis’ spell, so if he can mould a player on the books already or get someone in before the window that fits his system and work ethic then I’m not stressing. Should have held out for more is my only possible gripe.

We paid nowhere near 6-8m for him

general consensus is around £750k to £2m including add ons

As a comparison, Cov sold Gus Hamer for a similar fee, following a similar season, stats wise and Sheffield Utd sold Sander Berge for less and they paid a LOT for him. West Ham have paid a bit more for Summerville, but, I think he is perceived to have a higher ceiling, performance wise, than Jack Clarke.

You found our best player in recent times frustrating? You’re kidding yourself mate.

Didn’t we turn down £15m from Lazio so why would we accept that from Ipswich? I think the initial fee it’s got to be higher than £15m guess we won’t know for sure unless one of the club confirms the fee

Prehab otr says were looking at a clear £18mill return for Clarke after Spurs get their bit (with add ons included) - if true not too bad..what we do with the dough is what counts tho

*Plus a 15% sell on fee
