Jack Clarke

The biggest concern for me thinking about it, if they'll sell Clarke for £15m, then we're going to be getting some woeful fees in the future windows when others leave.

What happened to the contract extension? Anyway, it was inevitable he'd go. However it should have been an opportunity to bring in a big fee and reinvest it in quality that helps us take the next step. It's now clear the plan is to sell one player each summer and spread that money as thinly as possible in the hope they find the next Jack Clarke to sell in a few years time. They're literally keeping their head above the water.
The op was talking shit and should be banned

Cash in for what? They'll lose money In the championship, even with this sale. What’s the end game as they’ll never turn a profit unless they’re in the premier league

They’re not losing any money whatsoever, because the relative peanuts KLd etc are putting in, they are listing as debt owed to them by the club.

We were told - what, two years ago? - that this debt was going to be converted in to shares. Still waiting for that. All gone a bit quiet.

Wake up ffs.

Absolutely disgraceful fee. Speakman has set the bar for clubs to lowball us going forward for Ballard, Neil, Jobe etc.

Why pay 30-40 million elsewhere when you can get one of the best players in the championship for half that?
Its not Speakmans fault like. The owners are simply refusing to fund transfers and want Clarke sold to fund the strikers.

What can speakman do? I'm sure speakman would rather have more money rather than less.

Thing is mate, how skint are we if we need £11.25m from Clarke to fund about £6-7m of signings?
Not about being skint, KLD isn’t going to put his own money into large transfers, so I accept selling one of our top players, if we can bring 2 or 3 quality players back in. That’s sustainable in the Championship. What I can’t accept is a poultry £15m, when similar quality players just sold for £30-£40m🤯

This is only the first stage of it all. Still have to deal with some god awful announcement video, then him making his debut.

Effectively this is just the break up, need to prepare for watching him off with someone else 🥲🥲🥲🥲
I want to see him do really well.

We've shown zero ambition and we've been lucky to have been able to keep hold of him for so long, and he's done more than enough to show he can cut it at the top level.

Good luck to the lad and I hope he smashes it.

I mentioned earlier in thread he was happy to sign an extension if the rise was deemed acceptable. He’s on 15k a week currently and wanted 25k. The club initially offered 17k which was immediately turned down. No other offer was made. The stumbling point with Ipswich yesterday was Speakman trying to get more upfront. He’ll be on 40k at Ipswich.
All that may be true but it would have been KLD who ultimately accepts or declines the offer. Speakman will be advising him & doing the negotiating.

Having a good manager, able to galvanise a ‘team’ without stars was their initial model. They are now splashing cash though. I think they might be hamstrung either way, relegation or prem survival. Look at Wolves. Hardly anything to spend now due to two seasons of Mendesball
