This is why I’ll never be comfortable with the model

I am a 50+ dinosaur... the model is much like bazball in cricket, a slogan, a gimmick. Ultimately we are an unambitious club using sustainability (another buzz tem) as an excuse for selling the most potent and fully developed championship force (Clarke) to be replaced with nothing like 'like for like', rather than build a team around him.

You’ve convinced me. This is great news and I’m grateful we’ve sold our best player for a fee that has deductions to be made and won’t allow us to scratch the surface of what we need to replace him if it’s reinvested.

(That’s wrong by the way with regards to Wickham. Weve seen us flog young and / or coveted players such as Pickford, McNair, Maja, Asoro, the keeper McLaughlin, Stewart. Other academy prospects were sold off before they had the chance to make their mark).
No ones delighted. I'm gutted he's going. But I'm realistic enough to recognise this is what happens. Tbh it makes a change that we have players we're able to sell for large profits for a change.

And that list of players is in the last 8 years or so? In that time we've had maybe 6 or 7 players that we could command a decent fee on. It's a good sign that now we're a club with assets.

If we can do what Coventry did post Gyokeres we'll be ok. Big if though.

We've known it for 3 years. We know they want to be self sustainable and sign young talent for peanuts and sell them for a massive profit

So why are some of you shocked and angry ? Has it come as a surprise ? Wether you agree with it, believe in it, it doesn't really matter as non of us can do anything about it.

The biggest thing I take from selling a player for a massive profit is they must reinvest it in to the squad if it makes us stronger then fair enough

As for jack good luck to the kid he's been absolutely phenomenal in a red and white shirt and single handedly win us many many games.

We moved on we've still got a lot of incredible young talent in the squad. The best young talent most of us have seen in decades.

Let's be honest after the poor campaign last season most of us expected many more of our young talent to move on. The fact that the majority of them are still here means we still have e a good shot at promotion

Jack Clarke will never be replaced as he gives us so much as an attacking threat and there's no one out there who will make as much a difference as he does.

However these young lads are incredibly talented and adding a forward or 2 might just make us stronger. Only time will tell. Let's just see how the window pans out.

I'm still super excited to watch this young exciting energetic squad this season.
Club will live on .its the inflexibility of the model its under funding and glaring missed opportunities that is the main problem for me!Its the owners choice to make so lets see how it pans out! always hope for the best but expect the worst!

They won't reinvest even half of the money. They will take their huge profit and buy more youngsters who are nowhere near as good as him. This sale ensures we remain in the championship for at least another season as they have proven they cannot replace goals lost.

I am not here to support the owners bank balance and watch us meander around the championship for season after season.

This is the worst period in our history and shows no sign of ending.

The fee seems low, but even if it was higher there's no guarantee that we would spend it all anyway. Either way we'll be scratting around looking for bargains.

He departed for more and a month earlier. Not sure if Coventry has such a big sell on fee either. The first question is will we actually invest £11m? The second is what are we going to get at this late stage to attempt to replace what Clarke offers for that type of money even if we do?

Good luck to them.

Just before you laugh too hard, we’re an injury to Cirkin away (not an enormously unlikely event) from a Hjelde Mundle combo down our left flank. This squad finished 16th with Clarke, by far our best player, in it last season.

If that’s not at least a little bit worrying I’m not sure what is
I don't think what MIGHT happen and just take it as it comes, if you want to worry yourself silly then crack on my friend

Gutted Clarke is going, but to me, the biggest transfer deal of the summer was getting Rigg to sign a professional contract. Lads going to be a massive star, bigger than Clark imo, and locking him down so we can insert sell on clauses etc when we do sell him will be massive. I hope Clarke doesnt leave, but if he's been offered a new contract, and doesnt want to sign, then he is worth more now than next year (if we don't get promoted that is - which is the risk)
Rigg will be sold next season for 3 quid mate don't worry though as its 3 quid profit so all is good. The model is working

Because the fee that we are accepting is a fukin joke, even worse when you take into consideration the sell on fee to Tottenham.

The fee is very low Imo for Clarke but at lot of us know the model and it would come down to losing a top player or two to progress. If we sign a couple of decent strikers for him then so be it or it also gives players like Mundle and Rusyn the chance to make their mark on the left then great. The fee reported for Clarke is 15mil rising to 20mil add ons and we have included a sell on. Just say Clarke scores between 5 and 10 goals in the premier league, Ipswich still go down or even if they stay up but a bigger premier league team then puts a 40mil average bid (for a premier league player) in for him then depending on the sell on which will be at least 10% we make more money. The club is more than one player and if some fans are thinking Jack Clarke is the one player to keep us going then they forget it is a team game. Shame to lose him but good luck Jack and thank you for your goals and assists!

If anyone thinks the Clarke feels is his correct value then here are some comparisons:

Summerville - Leeds to West Ham £27m
Hutchinson - Chelsea to Ipswich £20m
Philogene - Hull to Villa £18m
Rowe - Norwich to Marseille £17m
add 15 million for delap to that list bonkers how low the fee is even more of a piss take not getting the strikers over the line before we sold him to put it into perspective a few mill more than we managed to get for Ross who hadn't played for a year to somebody on there top of there game and flying

You could say this is the first real test of the model. Unless we have a decent championship level winger lined up as a replacement then it has failed it's first test. The likes of Mundle are too raw and Poveda isn't fit plus injury prone.
Anderson £35 mil !

Tonight has confirmed my belief in the people who run the club I have supported for over 54 years, they simply aren’t good enough. I have no words anymore, £15m plus add ons for Clarke is so disgraceful, it’s actually embarrassing and an insult to 40k supporters who go week in and week out. Still no Assistant, that was supposed to be sorted out well before now,CF that is only possibly now being addressed after 4 transfer windows, BCB, Mike Beale, the list goes on it’s about finished me off.

The Mags went beserk when their god Keegan sold Cole even though they got a huge fee. We are now just accepting mediocrity and our expectation are being what let’s hope we can make the play offs!

We are Sunderland AFC ffs, our best player has been sold to Ipswich for peanuts in relation to his true worth to a club who we played this time last season who had just come up from L1 and are now in the PL…. Take a look at Ipswich Mr Owner and see what a bit of ambition and signing some quality players and what you can achieve.Who would have believed 12 months ago we would be selling our best player with no disrespect to Ipswich, makes you think doesn’t it!!

Good post and echoes my sentiments. We knew this day would come.

Over to KLD & Speakman to show this model works as this is the first real test.
They've sold him for £11 million in the coffers now.
That's a crap deal.

People keep saying this as if they know the facts on what % Spurs take.

No one knows how deals were structured to bring in quality players like Clarke & Cirkin (who’s the best LB in the league when fit) or how Ipswich have structured the *up to £20m.

Unfortunately to attract the best young talent there are going to have to be sweeteners and concessions made.

The point being though we continue to make a healthy profit on players to reinvest. The club have been very upfront about how they are going to operate.

We have to hope the next phase of this approach pays off with the replacements we bring in.
