Jack Clarke

I don’t think he’s going anywhere

He’s happy here. He’s idolised here. Close to his hometown. He’s the main man on the pitch each week as opposed to being a small fish in a big pond.

If he signs for a bottom half premier league team he’s getting half as much time on the ball compared to what he is with us.

And he’s only 23, he’s got another 10 years in the game and if he shines again this season he has plenty of time for another crack at the premier league (hopefully with us)
He will get less of the ball but three times the money. And he hasn’t got 10 peak years left

Absolutely agree with this....my view is that he will give us one last shot at promotion. Signing a striker is crucial to that imo and if we are in the mix come January he will stay.....if we arent then he will possibly leave then

But Jack Clarke isn’t your average championship player and he’s on average money. So we paying him shite money for what we getting out of him.

He won’t sign a new contract because we won’t pay decent wages to keep him.
We reckon he is a £20 million pound player but the wages we pay him don't reflect that. I know we have a wage structure but sooner or later we will need to lift the ceiling on that in order to pacify our best players. Maybe his transfer fee or some of it will be allocated to upgrade our wage structure.

They probably will sell Toney, but signing Clarke doesnt resolve the issue with them losing Toney.
It kind of does to be fair. They've already signed Toney's replacement for £30m - Thiago - but he's out until the New Year with a knee injury. They aren't going to spend big on another striker. Wissa is playing up whilst he's injured. Wissa normally plays left wing and they're supposedly in the market for a winger...

Do you know what we have offered him like?
No I don't but, it would of been more than he was on now obviously but I would actually bet my house on it that its a fraction of what other championship clubs/ Ipswich would be offering.

and yes Ipswich are now a premier league club but even last season coming up from league one forked out the wages to get Kieffer Moore.

Clarke is a £20m+ player that we want to sign a new deal..... do you really think we offered him a £20m+ player contract ?

100% this

Selling for 25m - 30m I’d begrudgingly accept. He could get injured or go off form for example. I recall us turning down a large amount for Kenwyne from Spurs only to sell him for a third of the offer a season or so later to Stoke (maybe due to injury).

This all said, Clarke’s basically irreplaceable in this division, and the money from a prem promotion is a lot higher than profits netted here. Ipswich aren’t much better than a sideways step so there’s a degree of frustration in that sense, compared to if an established pl side was after him. It all seems a bit pointless all round (apart from the agent lining his pockets) and a sad indictment on the financial gap between the leagues.

Holding on for another 6 months or a year would make more sense (are we in with a shout/are Ipswich adrift) but the noise here doesn’t sound promising.

And ? How many games did he play ? Does that mean every player who plays in a premier league team and who finishes 6th or 7th are worth 40 million ?
TBF almost all of thethe players who come 6th or 7th in the premier league this season..if they play regualrly and arent very old our out of contract would sell for £40mn

Your first paragraph answers the issues of the next two. We did similar with Kone with Everton turned down 18m from memory and his value plummeted after.

He gets at least a season in the prem and will probably treble his wages. He's then in the shop window for other prem teams.

Who's to say he's going to cut it in the prem. There has been countless players who have ripped up this league and never made the cut in the prem.
